    • Supercharged 1st gen Audi R8 V10 Plus vs. Pure Turbos upgraded C190 AMG GT S

A very interesting matchup here. The Audi R8 V10 Plus is a first gen model but that Plus received a dual clutch transmission upgrade. It belongs to BoostAddict member @gzim335 and he got an ESS-Tuning Whipple twin screw based supercharger kit for it.

The AMG GT S has a Pure Turbos M178 turbo upgrade but which Pure Turbos upgrade it is running is not stated. It is said to make roughly 780 rear wheel horsepower.

The first pull has the R8 jump ahead. There is some gamesmanship involved as the R8 gets on it fast and pulls. The AMG GT S can not make up the deficit and the passenger is not helping.

They run again with a far more even start although the R8 gets the early lead again partially thanks to the instant boost from the Whipple and partially due to reaction time.

Overall, two quick cars although the AMG GT S would need to ditch the passenger. The R8 is said to be on a race gas mix. This is the same AMG GT S that recently trapped 139 in the 1/4 mile.

Most importantly we need information on this S-tronic swap in first-gen R8. Was it R-tronic before? was it a manual before? Who did the swap? What was the estimated cost?

Car looks quick and fast, Does gzim335 have a dragy? Any numbers? 0-60? 1/4 mile? 60-130?

I had always thought the R8 was around 3,700lbs and the AMG 3,5XXlbs so a passenger would actually even it out a bit...however seeing them run, I agree, ditch the passenger and run again.

It is not a swap. Audi gave the 1st gen R8 a dual clutch replacing the R-Tronic in its last years.

VF’s website has this r8 supercharger kits performance @:

Tested by Motor Trend magazine, the supercharged V10 achieves 0-60 in 3.1s (originally 3.9s) and hits the quarter mile flag in just 11.0 sec @ 127.3 mph.

I would think the Amg with upgraded turbos should be trapping 130mph+ Easily....

Is that an R-Tronic or dual dual clutch car though? I would bet R-Tronic.

        S-Tronic is a dual-clutch man

I’m not sure if it is an r-tronic or s-tronic, however they advertise 750hp for the v10 kit and it traps only 127mph, that is low even for the manumatic.

Well if you look at numbers for the newer dual clutches they have 140+ traps so...

That makes more sense since the Amg trapped 139mph....

The trans isn't helping the trap. That's not a standard off the shelf blower kit anymore.

1 freak na gen 1 v10 broke into the 10's with bolt ons, tune, and weight reduction, I actually don't buy the run because the car trapped over 130. The guy is pretty well known on the forum dadsr8, the run was 10.945 @ 131.770 mph on a 2011. I would think a SC car would trap over 130 all day long, even a lower lever kit

        i didn't realize that 2014 & 2015 R8s (1st Gen Body) are 7speed S-Tronic (DCT)....very cool.

2017 is when the new 2nd Gen R8 body was released

That was the R-tronic variant, and was actually a very early system
(as sold by Stasis Engineering) which "only" made 710 horsepower.

A current VF750 System, with the S-tronic dual clutch gearbox, would
be good to run nearly a 1/2 second quicker & trap in the low to mid 130's.

Needless to say, the S-tronic is the primary performance differentiator
when it comes to the numbers on the Gen1 version cars.

I believe he is referring to the Motortrend results for the
VF800 System, which is for the Gen2 5.2L V10 found in
the latest R8 and Huracan models.

        0-60mph in 2.4 seconds - 1/4 mile in 10.1 @ 141mph

We do not have any official results for the VF750 (Gen1)
R8 V10 with S-tronic. Independent testing though is in
line with what we've described above.

        0-60mph in 2.6 - 2.7 seconds, and sub 10.9 sec. 1/4 mile
        @ closer to
        130+ mph.
