    • C&D gets 10's stock from the 2018 BMW F90 M5 - 0-60 in 2.8, 0-100 6.6, 1/4 mile 10.9@129, 4288 pound curb weight

Well, the new BMW M5 is the raw muscle champion out of the newest sport sedan crop. It will beat all of it rivals in a drag race and do so rather easily. It certainly helps that BMW has the displacement advantage on everyone except for Cadillac and Jaguar.

The thing about Cadillac and Jaguar is that they are not running turbocharged powerplants. The previous generation F10 M5 was heavily sandbagged in output. One can only imagine what the real output of the F90 twin turbo S63B44T4 V8 is.

If we were to guess, it's making over 600 horsepower to all four wheels stock. Yes, more power at the wheels than it is rated at the crank. There is no other way to explain it hitting 129 miles per hour of trap speed through the 1/4 mile even if it is a magazine time.

The 10.9 elapsed time should be easily replicated on the dragstrip by owners. All wheel + automatic = easy launches.

The new M5 is not only the quickest and fastest car in its class it is also the lightest. Well, at 4288 pounds it is the lightest all wheel drive sedan. The Cadillac CTS-V is the overall lightest in the class at 4108 pounds.

Congratulations BMW. You built the best 4-door dragster in the world.

Going to be interesting to see how hard BMW tried to keep tuners out.

I hope some engineer leaks the codes.

Looks like this one is to kill both Audi RS7 and E63 S in stock form. Impressive thanks to the ex-Audi boss ;-)

        This is scary fast.
Tesla slowly doesn't seem that fast at the red light anymore.

M5 blazing the way, making 10's standard performance expectation for super saloon category.

I wonder how much headroom is in those new turbos, what do you all think, enough to hit 9's stock turbo?

and the E63s in tuned form as so far renntech tuned E63s only ran 10.88 @126

If the RS3 did not come to the states, the new M5 would of been my choice for new sports sedan.... which says a lot as I have never been a BMW guy (amg and Audi is what i have always owned)

for the price of an M5 you could take the RS3 to Iroz for the full 1000hp treatment...amazing era we're in...

There's something about how RS3 look that I'm hesitant...given I'm only 5'7 and the 911 is not that big. But I guess look is subjective...I wish they just put the 5-cyl engine and other goodies into the S4 form. That would be perfect IMHO!

I get that as I feel the same way about the RS7 and main reason i bought the E63s (w212) vs RS7 because i hated the RS7 look, but I like the RS3 looks as it looks like a stocky/ muscular pitbull version of S4 to me... like it was just mushed a little shorter and bulged a little in the sides... but like you said its subjective... some people love the TTRS and I think it looks like a VW bug lol Click here to enlarge

Looks like this new 8-speed non DCT transmission is working just fine. The question is, how much power can it handle.

Great question right there....DCT upgrades came out pretty quickly....but what about traditional Automatic upgrades...this could end up being the Achilles heal of the F90 M5...."can't go over XXXXwhp due to automatic transmission failure" ouch....let's hope not.

Glad to see my predictions came true, although I didn’t know it would be this good.

However, as important as the straight line speed is the seeming return to form for handling - they raved about that too - far sharper and more more engaging than the F10, lighter, stiffer, “the best M5 since the E39” essentially has been repeated by many that have driven it.

There is hope yet that BMW may not go completely down the drain. This is it, right here.

I have a feeling the autobox will hold up to at least reasonable tuned power levels...past that, it’s sort of on the aftermarket, it’s not like a stock DCT can take 800 hp either. As it is, this engine is likely making 700+ hp and 650 lb ft on an average day, and is AWD to boot. The gearbox certainly must be quite strong from the factory.

I prefer the way the E63 looks inside and out, but there’s no two ways about it, the M5 is (again) the best sports sedan money can buy. As it should be.

With a tune, full exhaust and intake, people in FI Huracans will have to watch out...

a tuned fbo m5 will probably run high nines, you are with some heavily modded completion there
