    • 2017 Porsche 991.2 C4S vs. Mercedes-AMG GT drag race or all wheel drive wins

The AMG GT was designed with the Porsche 911 in its cross hairs. It certainly offers quite a bit of value compared to the 911 range which is a bit overpriced. The pricing between the AMG GT and 911 C4S is basically a wash and the difference depends on options.

The AMG GT does offer a motor a liter larger and with eight cylinders. It has more power and torque but sends it to the rear wheels. It is slightly heavier as well. Both have dual clutch transmissions. The C4S is all wheel drive and that is the entire difference here.

From a stop, the AMG GT just can not compete with the 911's launch. It would be nice to see this race run from a roll but the people at Motorsport Magazine don't seem to know how to do that.

      911 C4S
      Engine : flat 6 biturbo
      Displacement : 2 981 cm3
      Power : 420 PS
      Weight : 1 510 kg

      AMG GT
      Engine : V8 biturbo
      Displacement : 3 982 cm3
      Power : 462 PS
      Weight : 1 540 kg

AWD and weight transfer wins. Roll race would be GT for sure.

It looks like they have the same speed after the launch.
The P is a 30 kg less and 4wd takes hp.
The Porsche does ir very good.

Yeah me too but we know how it will go. AWD slight edge off the line and the RWD with a slight edge up top.

Would be interesting for sure but Carrera S still has 305s in the back vs the GTs 295s, combine that with more weight over the rear axle at launch and i'd still give it to the carrera S from the dig. It will hold off the GTs power advantage through its weight advantage....

        Carrera S RWD weight = 3175lbs
        MBZ GT weight = 3560lbs

        385lb weight advantage

        We saw this: http://www.boostaddict.com/content.p...TS-sucks-again

The GT-S had a significantly higher trap speed and was quicker.

I don't know why these people overseas can't figure out how to list a trap speed.

The 911 had a lame start check out 6:26 of the video although that doesn't quite explain the difference in trap speed.... the GT is just a monster performer. Just wish I liked the styling more...

Thanks to the GT its a perfect time to get into a used SLS.....Click here to enlarge

I wish this was true but the SLS market really firmed up.

4 wheel drives is unbeatable off the line. If only they would build a 4matic C63s coupe I would be a very happy man. How I'm going to justify the E63s to my wife without some serious arse kissing is beyond me. I'd have the c63s coupe today if it wasnt beaten by so many other cars of the mark. Theres a youtube video of a drag race of the whole amg range and the A45 AMG beats most of them.

From a roll the C63 will dominate though. If all you want to do is drag race from stoplights you might as well just get a Tesla and call it a day.

Its not that I want to dominate everything from a stoplight I just want to feel that this ideal car I have in my minds eye ( a c63s coupe ) will not be embarrassed by other cars I feel it should not be. I dont care what anyone says that does matter to a lot of people. If Mercedes did a 4matic C63s I'd buy one tomorrow as I love it. I dont track cars and keep to the speed limits so having this extra power from a roll is great but most of the time no use. I wonder if a black series c63 would be 4matic or have at least that option ?

If Mercedes gave the C63 all wheel drive I think it would impact the E63 sales negatively. It would just be a cheaper and lighter E63, right?

You can't get the E63 in RWD so the C63 fills a void there.

I really wanted a small coupe as already have a Range Rover. I guess I'll just have to go with the E63S coupe if it is ever released. Back to the waiting game. At least it should look like a c63s coupe as all the MERC coupes seem to look like each other in varying states of stretch.

Honestly, if you want a coupe with all wheel drive that is pretty light the 911 C4 Carrera is what you should look at.

I've been in many and that car does nothing for me. Yes they do everything better than most cars but I just cant get away with that shape and the engine noise. It's all subjective but to me its a no. I've also been in the Mercedes GTS and had same feeling. I know what I'm after and that would be a c63s 4matic. I love the sound the chunky looks. Slightly lowered in black with 4matic and a modified to over 600 bhp is the thing of dreams for me. Totally overkill for how I would drive it 99% of the time but cars are also supposed to excite you in many ways. That I would rather have over any 911 and would pay to own. But its not to be I guess unless a black series C63 comes along and sorts that out. So back to waiting and watching. Or maybe a e63s coupe if its ever released.

Well then a Nissan GTR I guess? I don't have any other suggestions.

I think I may just go for the Faraday FF 91. 0 to 60 in 2.3 secs should sort out the men from the boys. Ha ha. Soon straight line acceleration performance will be irrelevant with all of these electric motors. If your not going on the track then all of these new cars will be as quick or not quicker than 1 million + hyper cars. I mean quick not fast before anyone jumps on me. The chemical combustion engine is dead unfortunately. I personally think that's a shame. The chiron is far far less the game changer that the Veyron was. Not that it matters as I could not afford either anyway lol.
