        The M178 is a powerhouse and responds very well to tuning. It also helps that Mercedes-AMG puts the powerplant in a relatively light chassis (by AMG standards) which is the C190 AMG GT. There is also the additional benefit of the transaxle dual clutch transmission design ensuring great weight distribution and performance.


        So what does the AMG GT S put down to the tires in stock form on pump gas?

        468 rear wheel horsepower and 468 lb-ft of wheel torque:


        Add in the following mods with some Eurocharged Canada tuning magic and you get 672 rear wheel horsepower and 642 lb-ft of rear wheel torque:

        pure stage 2 turbos, Eurocharged Catless downpipes, weistec VTA, bmcairfilters dry air filters. ** Stock engine/ transmission tuned on pump 94 octane.
        Fuel is pump 94 octane and the engine and transmission are both stock.

        This is a great daily AMG GT M178 setup.

          Editing to reflect the turbos are Pure 800 units not Pure 900.

          Still impressive... 672RWHP on that AMG is a good reliable daily.

          Very nice. Just pulled up some used amg gt prices up out of curiosity and there are some pretty good buys out there. Cheaper than a 911 of similar vintage...

          Not gonna lie... the more I look into this car the more I like it. If I can get into a clean car for $80k and trap 140mph for another $10k that seems like a no brainer. Are there any lingering defects or reliability concerns?

          Not that I know of.

          It's a great car that seems to fly somewhat under the radar.
