    • Alpina sticks a detuned S58 in a G21 3-Series wagon chassis to build the M3 wagon you have always dreamed of - 2020 B3 Touring

With all wheel drive and an automatic transmission the prospect for an M3 wagon is greater than ever. The utility and year round usability would be there but BMW likely will not do it. That is where Alpina comes in to fill the niche.

How long will Alpina be able to keep doing this? The need for their B7 is long gone with BMW selling the M760Li. If BMW sells an M3 wagon what exactly will Alpina do?

Their relationship with BMW helps as they get a detuned S58 motor. Most would tune that engine up but the deal likely was that BMW would allow Alpina to build this model to fill a void as long as it did not crush the M3 in performance. So, a detuned S58 here we are.

Power is down to 462 horsepower with 516 lb-ft of torque sent to all four wheels through a ZF 8-speed automatic. Alpina changed the turbos likely to smaller and more responsive units.

No pricing information provided or if this would be one of the rare Alpinas that makes it over to the USA.

It certainly does point to what a modern M3 wagon could be though.

Thatís pretty awesome. Alpina is super nice stuff. Too bad BMW doesnít build an M3 wagon with the flared fenders found on the sedan, but this is the next best thing.

Looks fantastic. Will definitely trounce a C43 Wagon but probably for 25k more. Is this (or the new 3-series wagon) coming to the US for that matter?

Surely the article is wrong and the engine is the B58, not the S58,
