Jeep considering 392 cube Hemi V8 for Wrangler

    How cool would this be?

Hot off the tips wire: Jeep may be planning a Hemi 392-powered version of its legendary Wrangler.

The engine bay you see here belongs to a 2011 Wrangler. The engine is Chrysler's recently introduced 6.4-liter "392" V8, the same powerplant found in the Dodge Challenger SRT8 392. In that car, it produces 470 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, along with a suitably snarly, obnoxious exhaust note. No current production Wrangler is offered with a V8.

According to our well-placed and trustworthy tipster, this vehicle was built for Michael Manley, Jeep's current president and CEO. It was assembled by American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) in Montana, an aftermarket Jeep firm with strong ties to the industry and long history of Wrangler Hemi conversions. (Note that AEV has constructed concept vehicles and tested other ideas for Chrysler in the past.) It's rumored to have been built for executive evaluation, meaning we may be looking at an early iteration of a future model.

They cant. It would be akin to burning money for fiat corp. They lost money on most of their vipers per unit. They lost money on every one of their srt8 rams per unit. And with gas at 4+ a gallon just be thankful we have any jeep being slated with the 392....

However all is not lost. Their are a few companies that will make the swap. 30k for the 2 door rubi, and 20k for the 6.1 or 6.4 hemi and you have one hell of a ride!

How do limited production 8+ liter V10's reflect upon the Hemi which has much larger production? You say it won't happen then say to be thankful for any jeep with the 392? Not really sure I understand?

Not the same as if the factory does it though. I hope they do a Hemi Wrangeler, and soon.

    1. The 8+ liter v10 and the 6+ liter hemi will attract the same type of consumer. Based on this philosophy fiat will determine business case scenarios to turn a buck with their chasis lines. Can they sell 10k units with the jk 6.1/6.4? Can they make a profit, if they only sell 5k units? What would the price need to be to turn a profit for each of these potential sales figures?
The bigger question is how many projects can fiat afford that are so called glamor projects? Most likely the next viper will again be in the red.
Their is no question a select few not only want this vehicle(jk hemi) but also have the cash to pay for them. I just dont see jeep selling 5k to 10k units at 45k-50k a pop. For the same money the srt cherokee and svt raptor are, to be simplistic, more practical.

Personally I pick the raptor and tweek it(600hp n/a) then get a rubi(in its current form) for rock crawling.

I don't know but I assume they considered all these factors for the current SRT-8's on the market? Certainly with the motor already in production in several models if they decide to go through with this it would make sense. It certainly would make more sense than the V10.

I don't think it would be $50k but guess we will see if it ever comes to market. I think it would be in the 30's and low 40's at the worst.

The Challenger is mid 40's. Hell a well equipped 2 door rubi approaches the high 30's. besides the normal r and d, jeep would need to do their homework with safety. High roll center and short wheel base is great for crawling not so great with 450hp heart.

How sweet would it be, 1st generation bronco build with the new ford 5.0 as its powerplant?
