    Single Turbo Build

As some of you know i made a bad choice to go with a single turbo kit from a new company in the beginning of 2014 when i purchased my 335. Well that went terribly wrong and as usual I learn the hard way.

After all that was straightened out I decided no more corners would be cut on this build when it comes to anything.

I have alot of catching up to do with this build thread. Here is the car before i began building it. I had all the basic bolt ons... Charge pipe, meth, Jb4 (then later switched to cobb when i decided i wanted to go to single turbo), 7" FMIC, Fuel-IT stage 2 bucket, back end flash, etc etc.

Currently i have the motor, tranny, and rear diff pulled from car.

    Intake manifold design im considering
-Had drawn up a rough design of an intake manifold for this build and sent the file off to a buddy that does aerospace engineering over in Europe. He sent me back this and said this would be the most efficient manifold design. I do not know if this is his marked up design or if he sourced it from somewhere else but its pretty close to what i sent him. The only thing im debating is...is it really going to make a big enough difference to justify spending money on materials and adding more downtime on my car to build it.

    Future Plans:
-Rods and pistons before putting motor back into the car. I bought a block without crank (upload pics in a little) but i was told that if it didnt come with the crank the whole block was useless...not sure how this is true but im still looking into it so if someone would like to shed some light feel free. Trying to source another block w/crank so i can build it outside of the car comfortably instead of being under the thumb. This is my daily driver until we get our company trucks back (stupid airbag recalls)

I'm not sure why you would need the original crankshaft in the original block. A different crankshaft should be able to be align bored and assembled into the block by a reputable machine shop. Now I honestly haven't built an N54 so I could be wrong but I've built a ton of Mitsubishi motors and we put crankshafts from anywhere in blocks from everywhere. Nothing that some good machine work shouldn't take care of. @alex@ABRhouston or @FFTEC should be able to answer definitively though

I see. So you're saying it's best to have the matching crank and block?

if it isnt the original crank to original block, using the factory installed bearings, then you have some serious machining to do. It isnt easy, nor cheap.

right, but can't a bare block be align bored, a crankshaft sourced from somewhere else be polished and balanced and installed into the bare block with ACL bearings and ACL main studs?

Alex was the one i got the knowledge from. Ive been very hesitant on doing the motor build because its looking a lot better to have Alex build it since he is not even a 20 minute drive from my house and knows these cars like he designed them to begin with...only thing is is i need to source another engine to do this so i can get my daily driver back on the road for now. I didnt think i was going to go full retard on the build untill i got into it and then it started the whole "well if its out of the car i might as well do this".

I also am eager to see exactly what his motor produces. Been reading through the threads and it definitely looks like some good stuff and when i spoke to him in person he definitely has all corners covered and willingly showed me around.

I need to get with you when i get back from the rig on 22nd. Ive got a few emails out to some people to source a motor. No replies yet. BUT if you have an assembled and tested bottom end i can put the VAC head on then i might be able to justify the spending on an early birthday gift to the lady

Yeah i tried to tell myself i was only going to work on the 600 hp range but once i disassembled i saw no reason to not just complete the build.

Just hard to justify to the lady spending 16k on the car in april 2014 then turning around and dropping another 15k+ into it by the end of 2014. What has to be done has to be done though haha

Hahah she supports me in it all she just knows how to tame my binge spending habits. She actually went behind my back and asked some buds of mine what i had been talking about on my car and bought it for me for christmas. Only reason i know is cause she slipped up and said something.
