Comparing the acceleration of the MKVI and MKVII Volkswagen Golf R models
Road and Track was able to do a quick test of the European spec MKVII Golf R model and compared the results the MKVI Golf R. Now, this is not exactly a perfect comparison as the numbers were recorded on different days in different locations. Still, it gives an idea as to how the MKVII Golf R improves on the MKVI. The MKVII features a 290 horsepower 2.0 liter turbocharged TSI four-cylinder direct injected motor.
This particular MKVII also has the manual transmission option. Just like the MKVI, power is sent to all four wheels. The MKVI though has 266 horsepower. On paper the MKVII should be quicker and it certainly is:
The MKVII gets to 60 half a second quicker. The 0-100 time is 1.8 seconds quicker, a big difference. It is also 5.6 miles per hour faster through the 1/4 mile so that extra 24 horsepower sure is doing some work. It will be interesting to see how the DSG transmission does and low 13 second runs certainly look possible on paper.
