Another N54 Bites The Dust. :pics inside:

Customer did not hit the oil pan says he was just driving 45 mph when it happened, Ironically I was going to pickup a part from him later on that day before it happened. He said he was hearing a weird noise then texted me something bad happened lol

car had JB4 and was still on the old cobb back end flash, I had RBs installed at 70k miles and now car has 131k miles.

Bits and pieces of piston must have fell out during tow, because I couldn't find them anywhere in oil pan.

Not really sure what happened. car also was running meth, not sure if that could be a factor, but car was not under any load when the engine went.

Weird man. It probably wasn't that moment when the rod was weakened but something earlier.

    $#@! happens, sorry.

I'm sorry, goes to the owner of that n54! That rod is bent so much it looks like someone try to hit the hole to fast. Time to build!

One of my friends just blew up his n54 last week. He bought the car with 78k miles about 2 months ago and finally got a jb4 and BMS dci in it last week. He went out to auto tune on map 5 and 93 octane gas. He said when he exited off the highway he heard a loud metal to metal clanking that wouldn't go away. He took it to the dealer and his SA said he has a blown cylinder 5.

Probably accumulated stress on the rod, and it just so happened to buckle in that particular instance.

That motor is seriously exploded lol.

Alternatively perhaps the VANOS gear shredded and the timing went to $#@!.

Whp doesn't kill motors, torque does.

On a n54 the wtq is likely greater than the Whp, unless tuned to not be that way

On a single turbo? I highly doubt that.

To me, a bent rod like that suggests a hydrolock or when the VANOS bolt took a $#@! the piston kissed a valve . If it was load or overrev to blame I would expect a snapped rod not a bent one.

Exactly...And no way its going to bend like that not under load without hydolocking. It damn sure didn't bend like that gradually or earlier under stress. Meth system leaked and hydrolocked it (speculation but I'd put money on it...if I had money).

No worries, jessie says it will decimate all after a few and week, and if you have too, overnight parts from Germany!

Ok but in all seriousness, what turbo's was he running? Could we get a full mod breakdown and tune breakdown. What meth system was he running?

Good to see this stuff happening. We all learn by mistakes, preferably others mistakes.

Did you drive through any standing water in these recent storms in the Midwest? That sir is hydro lock damage for sure. Meth leaks could be the culprit, once Vargas gets this damn shotgun mod out I cms do away with the meth injection and run 100% e85 for cooling and fueling.

Your right.... i haven't been paying to much attention on the single turbo n54's.... but they are still at 600+ wtq, which is way over stock so the longevity of the stock N54 internals is surely being tested, especially with more and more popping up.

Not saying that meth was the case here or with any of the other engine failures but MOST of them that I have seen seem to be running meth.

Yeah, it seems like every blown engine we've seen has used meth. I'll just wait for vargas' fueling upgrade instead of using meth lol.

When used properly with failsafes meth is an amazing tool.

The reason the failures are happening with meth is because the people using meth are also the people pushing the limits.
