    Here is Mercedes-Benz testing the 2015 AMG GT on the Nurburgring and it sounds... subdued

    Everyone is excited about the upcoming AMG GT and rightfully so. This will be a new sports car from Mercedes-Benz that will fill in the void left once the SLS AMG ends production. With twin turbo V8 power courtesy of an M177/M178 4.0 liter engine paired to a dual clutch transmission as well as a fairly low curb weight thanks to extensive use of aluminum this will likely be the highest performance AMG model available in the lineup for the near future.

    Mercedes takes its performance seriously which is why they are doing Nurburgring testing and the AMG GT sure looks like it corners pretty flat and moves well. The odd part is that the M177/M178 exhaust note is so subdued. It just sounds quiet, doesn't it?

    Hopefully Mercedes uncorks the exhaust a bit and let's this car roar. Regardless, it is shaping up quite nicely. We are getting close to the point of an official reveal.

    Absolutely. I haven't been this excited to see a car in a while.

    Mercedes is just building way more exciting cars than BMW.

    It should be a little smaller at least height wise. The wheelbase is similar I believe.

    Yeah, somewhat subdued and not quite like the M156's fricking Cat. 5 thunderstorm of a V8 exhaust note - insanely loud and nice, all at the same time. Think Roush Mustang, is what I tell people.

    That said, with those turbos, even the best mechanical trickery will have it falling short of the 156.

    On the other hand, could AMG be playin' possum and being a little coy on the real sound? Hopefully. 'Cause if I remember Tobias Moers correctly, even he acknowledges AMG customers like their sound to be proper. (Read: damn loud, aka, no less than 75 decibels.)

    And the sh-- I heard is nice, but it wasn't proper AMG from where I'm sitting.

    Still, as noted earlier, might just have to take it to the aftermarket; problem solved.

    Are you, AMG, gonna let Audi Quattro tuners outdo you with essentially the same 4.0 liter displacement twin-turbo V8? Are you conceding the sound aspect of your decades-old German Power War? Are you getting soft?

    Specifically, anyone heard the sound of an Audi S8? Not too bad at all!!

    So, release the hounds already, AMG. Dammit. Quit muckin around.

    I'm curious, why do you make it sound like I am in charge of Audi tuners?
