Next generation 2015 Audi R8 will lose the manual transmission option and eventually get V6 turbo power

Last month AudiBoost reported that the next generation Audi R8 due sometime next year would continue to offer V8 and V10 naturally aspirated powerplants. That is correct but the R8 will ditch the V8 at some point in its lifetime for a turbocharged V6 which will likely be shared between it and the RS4/RS5 which itself will be ditching the same V8 for a turbo V6. It seems Audi will keep the 4.2 V8 in production for the R8 until the new turbocharged six-cylinder is ready at which point the switch will be made.

Audi's head of development Ulrich Hackenberg stated, “In the future we will need turbocharged engines for the R8, to meet the needs of certain market around the world. There are some other numbers between four and eight cylinder.” Essentially, he confirmed the next generation turbocharged V6 and that the R8 will get this motor at some point.

Additionally, the R8 will not longer offer a manual transmission option. Like the Lamborghini Huracan on which it is based, a 7-speed dual clutch will be standard and the only option. Expect more and more manufacturers to go this route as it appears the manual transmissions days are numbered.

With a dual clutch transmission, lighter weight, and a turbo V6 power the entry level R8 will become a very interesting performance option in relation to the V10 big brother. A simple ECU tune might put it on par with the V10 and Audi no doubt is aware of this.

That 4.2L is the real FAIL.
All R8's should come with the 4.0LV8TT and DCT.
Enough power to be respectable, modern transmission, and allows the Lmabo to be differentiated by naturally aspirated big cubes.
Plus, the fact that it will be the only version of the Audi/Lambo built for boost, it will be the tuner's choice.

I hate to bring this up, but the vague statement quoted in the article also leaves the door open for a boosted inline 5.
Let's all hope that doesn't happen and the 4.0LV8TT makes it to the R8 instead.

Create a dupe account again and it's a perm IP ban. You aren't that smart.

It wouldn't matter. Nice quick edit but I see everything. You're pushing your luck here.
