2011 Mopar Challenger V10 Drag Pak

They finally did it. The Viper's V10 in the Challenger!!!!

Instead of sticking with the 6.1-liter Hemi V8 used last year, the 2011 Mopar Challenger Drag Pak crams a 512-cubic inch, 8.4-liter V10 engine and mates it to a two-speed automatic transmission. If those engine numbers sound familiar, and they should, it's because that's the same unit used in the Dodge Viper – which produces 600 horsepower and 560 pound-feet of torque.

Only 70 units will be produced and they'll each have a starting MSRP of $85,512

2-speed? Powerglide? Sounds like it is setup to have someone run nitrous or boost through it.

Look under the hood. Simple and to the point!

I like! But why a 2 speed? Car is too heavy for a 2 speed, unless it has 4.56 gears then you wont be able to anything but drag race it. I guess thats why its called the drag pak!

It is a dedicated drag platform, and a badass one at that.

Yep, that is the whole point. Ford does something similar with a couple varieties of Mustangs, drag only.

Glad you posted this Frank. I'm just wondering why they don't finally stick the V10 in a street version. Challenger SRT-10 would be something special.

Personally I think it's a hell of a combo (definitely in waiting for FI or lots of spray), but I wonder what the purists think of the V10 vs classic V8... I'll take the cylinders and inches anyday. Probably would have gone with a C4 vs PG though. You need to be making serious power and torque to use one, it will suck the life out of that car as delivered.

Same here, give me the 8.4 liter stump puller. They already have a couple V8's in it a V10 from the Viper would be a nice farewell to that motor.

It looks like it might be back halved or mini tubbed from the factory, too.

If not that would be the first thing I'd do.

Next would be a BIG turbo plus maybe a small shot of nitrous to help spool it.

What I meant is that it does not have enough power in stock form to justify a two-speed. They know people will be making 4 digit numbers with this.

    I don't know, with an 8.4 liter V10 I would think so.

now that i think more about it, if i had a few extra tens of g's, i would buy this. It is a stellar machine, spend all day at the dragstrip with it, no need to go over the top with boost. just a 150 shot and run deep 9's, beautiful work by mopar!

Exactly. Hell, throw a 300 shot on it if you want.

Want to build your own? Heck sounds like a great swap. I think we're on our 7th Viper kit right now, the best of them making over 1000hp with traction control and knock control. Those motors are agricultural but they are effective.

Powerglides are a very inefficient and ancient chevy design, and yes it's a 2 speed automatic that makes a ton of heat, but also to it's credit can handle anything you can throw at it. You have to have a $#@!load of torque to even think about using one, between the huge driveline loss (super heavy internals) and only having 2 cogs it will literally suck the life out of even that V10 N/A.
