Another 991 Carrera S to C7 Corvette Stingray comparison this time by Car and Driver
Anyone sick of these yet? Well get used to seeing a heck of a lot of these comparisons over the next few years especially once the Z06, ZR1, Turbo, and GT2 hit the market. Edmunds already did the C7 versus 991 Carrera S comparison as did MotorTrend with a Ferrari F12 thrown in for fun. What is interesting to note in this comparison by Car and Driver is that the cars accelerate virtually the exact same. Yes, this is partially due to a PDK version of the Carrera S being used.
Still, Car and Driver got stronger trap speed numbers than MotorTrend by 2 miles per hour despite being 2/10's slower in elapsed time. Certainly interesting and Car and Driver weighed their 991 Carrera S at a lighter 3297 pounds. The reason for this? Carbon ceramic brakes. The 991 in this test undercuts the C7 Corvette with a manual trans by 163 pounds.
As stated, acceleration is virtually neck and neck with the C7 turning a 12.5@116 1/4 mile versus the 12.4@116 for the 991 Carrera S PDK. Is the C7 capable of better than what Car and Driver hit? Yes, as on the forums we have seen the car hit an 11.4. The stock straightline battle should edge toward the C7 Corvette despite what you see here from Car and Driver.
Some other eye opening figures are the skidpad numbers which up to this point have all been in favor of the C7. Both the skidpad and slalom figures favor the 991 Carrera S when Car and Driver tested it. Hey, you figure it out as PorscheBoost can't.
Ultimately the C7 gets the win due to the value it offers but the 991 is voted as more fun to drive. The reality is one can not go wrong with either car and they are surprisingly close to one another. It really is the Vette's value that gives it the majority of its appeal versus the 991 which offers greater sophistication and exclusivity. Both are simply awesome machines.

Highs, Lows, and Verdict >
Every millimeter the driver’s car, an exhaust note that rewards poor judgment.
Priced out of reach for many people who would provide loving homes.
It’s an un-freaking-believably good day when you get to say another car beats this one.
Highs, Lows, and Verdict >
Accessible performance gets even more exploitable.
Insulates its driver from some sensations of driving.
Won’t embarrass you at a three-fork dinner, but don’t ask it to order the wine.

Think I'll take the vette. More so if you like making bigger power and glorious v8 noises.

Vette all day. The c7 is the only Chevy I'll get back into. The interior, I'll say it is better than my e90. The fitment, the car itself in person is not like any other vette. They really made it to go straight head to head with the Germans in all POV from quality to performance.Burger Motorsports
