Car and Driver "leaks" 2015 Mustang cover photo

Real or not? Some are saying this is an upcoming Car & Driver issue, others say it's nothing more than a Photoshopped cover.

Certainly not a bad design if true but very much a slightly evolution of the current design.

I don't know if it's true or not but the Alfa is not $55k...

    It's real... http://www.caranddriver.com/features...l-details-news

I'm not that impressed with it. Doesn't give you that "wow" reaction. If your not all excited by the studio photos, it will probably look worse in real life/production form. It looks like a current mustang with a new fusion front end.

This is some serious news though...

The first is a twin-turbocharged V-8, code-named “Voodoo,” which displaces between 5.0 and 5.5 liters and, most intriguingly, has a “flat-plane” or 180-degree crankshaft, as Ferrari has used in its V-8s since 1973. This configuration, also found in the late Lotus Esprit V-8, is akin to connecting two four-cylinder banks to a common crankshaft. Flat cranks theoretically improve power, throttle response, and the soundtrack at the expense of greater vibration. This EcoBoost V-8 will produce between 550 and 600 horses. It will power a Shelby GT350–branded model that eventually will take over from the GT500, as Ford is desperate to discontinue that car’s costly and thirsty Trinity.

220 pounds less weight + IRS? Wow. I might end up in a freaking Mustang.

Not really...that's less power than the current cobra, 220 lbs is a lot of weight, sure, performance wise it might be good, but how reliable? And still doesn't look very good. They have definitely stepped up the power benchmark in the last few years, but factory power isn't everything.

I really don't understand how you can not be impressed. It's lightyears ahead of the current Mustang platform. Styling is subjective so whatever but all the major weaknesses are addressed. I'm blown away.

Not sure about you but if I was in a market for a car that's 600+ horsepower reliability isn't something I would assume came with the car. Stupid ear to ear grin every single time you merge on a highway, yes, but reliability no.

But yes, the way people talked this car up I was ready for a major redesign of the body or a brand new style. This looks a lot like the current stang and very much so just a bit of an evolution looks wise. But the rest of the stuff sounds good to me.

3300 lb mustang with a 600HP twin-turbo V8 and IRS. How could anyone not be impressed?!
That redesign is a nice evolution of the current gen imo. They're not completely going to change the styling of a long standing model...

I'll take a twin turbo 600HP Mustang with IRS please.

I wonder what the price will be? Maybe 50K for a GT350?

Oh, no doubts the car will perform, I'm sure low $50,xxx will be the base price maybe? Can't imagine any less that's for sure.

Sorry, I guess I'm crazy for thinking 550-a maybe 600 BHP is NOT that impressive for a 5-5.5l V8 TT. That's a lot of motor moving a lot of air. Now if they tell me that's at 6 PSI and bring out some more specs I might be impressed, but as of right now...no I don't see what there is to be so impressed about. Dropped weight? Ok, cool, so they are doing what BMW did and getting rid of weight that was unnecessarily added in the past few years....3300lb? Last time I checked the current mustang cobra was around 3845 lbs curb weight so lets try 3625 lbs...that's still not light, improved, but not light. IRS? Ok, so finally after almost a decade without it... they put IRS on a car that is supposed to be designed for the track already? Sweet...I'm not saying it won't be a great performance car, but not enough information to be impressed about right now...especially without knowing the price tag since the mustang is really stretching "affordable performance" already

Ok, I do like the idea of the flat-plan crank, I remember seeing that would part of the new motor design a few months ago, but I also remember reading not to expect the same high revving redline that we're used to in euro exotics...we'll see, but I'll honestly be shocked to see a redline beyond 7k

It should be higher than the current GT500 though regardless.

Um the M5, E63, and RS6 all make less than 600 horsepower for more $ and Ford underrates the crap out of their motors...

What do you want exactly? That's just an estimate anyway it won't be a step backward from the GT500 in HP.

great evolution of the styling, sorta like the E36 to E46 to E90 to F30 evolution, subtle, classy, and nothing too drastic to confuse it with something other than a Mustang. Great job!

I'm not even sure why so many are focused on the looks when there are massive changes where it counts. Plus there is nothing wrong with the current mustangs styling anyway so evolving it is fine.

Nice to see them try something cool - I like the idea of a flat-plane crank, and wish BMW used it on the current-gen M3. Faster revving/better response - cool stuff.

They didn't have enough balls to make it not look like a Mustang.

What happened to the "clean slate" design rumors?
