EVO takes a spin in the 991 GT3 and compares it to the McLaren MP4-12C and Nissan GTR

By now you are familiar with the 991 GT3 specs. No manual transmission, PDK only, 475 horsepower, 3.8 liter direct injected flat-6, and a 9000 rpm redline. Great aerodynamics, low weight, basically built to be the ultimate driver' s 911. So how does it drive and how does it compare to other driver's cars? Well EVO analyzes this aspect and takes the GT3 on some back roads and the track to compare to two other benchmarks, the Nissan GTR and McLaren MP4-12C.

The other two cars are there for context exactly as they should be to put the GT3's performance in perspective. So how does the GT3 stack up?

The McLaren lapped their test track at 1:02.7 hitting a peak of 151.7 miles per hour. EVO shares the information that with the Pagani Huayra they hit a 1:02.4 so the McLaren is stupid quick, epic quick, around the track.

The GT3 incredibly beats the MP4-12C by a tenth of a second. That is stunning and it is difficult to use words to express just how impressive of a feat it is. 1:02.6 for the GT3 with a lower top speed hit of 144.6 so the GT3 is doing it with its handling, balances, and brakes, not power. Also, stickier rubber plays a big role here as the GT3 comes with R-Compound rubber. Would the McLaren gain back its tenth and then some with equal rubber? More than likely.

Unfortunately, EVO does not do a direct lap comparison including the Nissan GTR only a subjective comparison on backroads. That's cool and all but this network prefers hard data to subjective points. Ideally one should include both.

Still, a great comparison video. Enjoy it below:

I like how he debunks the "GTR is computer game on wheels" myth. Like I have said in the past, you have to manhandle it around a track.

Because everywhere you drive you are racing other cars.
