APR Stage 3 GTX Golf R runs an 11.5@116 1/4 mile on street tires

Very, very impressive results here for an APR Stage 3 Golf R. This car features a fully production APR Stage 3 GTX turbo kit on a full weight MKVI Volkswagen Golf R with street tires. This car would have no problem repeating this performance on the street just as easily as it did on the street. That means from a stoplight it is going to be tough to beat as the 11.5@116 1/4 mile time suggests. That is with 93 octane pump gas by the way.

The question is what transmission is the Golf R using? As this run was done in Australia the car could either be a DSG or a manual (USA only gets manual). Considering the elapsed time, VWBoost leans toward thinking this is a dual clutch car.

Regardless, very impressive runs. Check out the video below.

Very fast, just low trap. I think it can hit 10's with some racegas and trap 120 or so. Would be nice to se.

I'm not overly impressed. With the initial cost of the car ($35,000?) and the cost of this kit ($6k?) I'd expect a much better trap in an AWD DCT car. You put that much in an Evo x and its running 10s.

I think it's a little more than that for the vw, but I hear ya. The EVO doesn't even need a tubo swap just bolt ons and some e85 it can be lower 11 and higher trap. LOL

Is the Xi system in the BMW's really that $#@!ty that with a 500+ WHP car that traps well over 120 in the RWD version cant hook up and run a 10 second pass? Just confuses me.

That cost to go stage 3 is much higher than 6k and that's because you have to deal with APR. quality parts but you get bent over when it comes to buying them.

Hmmmmmm, think you missed the entire point if my post. Obviously it's awesome if a BMW with way more power and AWD can break into the 10's yet. Obviously the BMW awd system is not very performance friendly

APR is just SO overpriced. I think Terry would make a fortune in the VW world with reasonably priced tune/software and boltons. Really Vargas would too with turbo upgrades.

Tell me about it. Would love to have both of these guys in the VW world. Seriously n54 guys who complain about pricing of anything don't realize how spoiled they are.

You're right I did I thought you were implying this was not impressive. It definitely is and hooks up well. Check out the new video posted of a front wheel drive GTI running 11 flat, freaking nuts.

I have yet to come across a piggyback option for any of the VAG cars. All were flash based. The encryptions on the ECUs in the mk6 are so ridiculous the only way to flash it is to crack the ECU and do some $#@! to it that I don't know of.

I'm amazed there are no piggyback options. You wouldn't need to screw with the ECU or flash.

Probably has something to do with the bosch ECU VAG runs. I know on the TSI they have a lot of complex3d maps with mostly german tech notes and may be arguebly harder to tune than a BMW (GIAC is basically the only people that can answer that question since they do both). I know the ECU is extremely finicky and even using a MBC/EBC you're limited to what you can do before the ECU just becomes a dick about it.

I'm sure there is something to that but the BMW ECU is highly complicated as well. I think it works with the N54 due to being a closed loop fueling system. I have no idea what the VW setup is.

Closed loop, or at least I am fairly certain it is. With a 11.5 target at WOT and the ECU will do whatever it takes to get that a/f.

I think in that case somebody just needs to try to get a piggyback working.
