    Open Source Flasher: Alpha Testers

As posted over on N54tech.com, we are looking for a couple individuals who are willing to do some alpha testing.

    Few criteria:

    1) you need to know what you are doing. It would help if you've got experience working with flash tunes already. If you have no idea what this actually does, then its best you wait for the public release. We are looking for additional data points to compare and you will need to send us bin files and feedback etc.

    2) You need to already have a BT Cable and a windows machine.

    3) You may not release this software, as we want to ensure there are no bugs or hiccups when its released for public consumption.

    4) You must understand the risks inherently associated with flash tuning. It has been coded very well and we've had no problems with it nor have we bricked a single dme across many reads/writes, just as a necessary disclaimer.

PM me with your ROM type and we will select a few individuals to participate!

Damn, I don't have a BT cable. Definitely interested in testing if/when it's ported over to using one of the INPA/Ediabas K+DCAN cables.

If you don't know how it probably means you aren't the best Alpha tester at this stage.

I shot a couple copies of the flasher out. They will be posting here their results. Do not request the software from them, they are instructed to let us know who does so. This is for everyone's good, we want to make sure its nice and smooth. Some instructions will come up into the first post and will cover the read, write and partial write process.

@klipseracer, everything went really well. Ran into a small issue where the counter went negative when i read out the stock ECU the second time in a row since I accidentally overwrote my OEM bin file when playing around with TunerPro. I am trying to email you my stock bin file but yahoo is being a $#@! about it. Did @Sticky get the file upload working on the forum?

Not sure if you need any testers. I have experience with flash tuning on multiple platforms. Mitsubishi, Nissan, BMW you name it. Also have a bt cable and plenty of Tunerpro experience. Have IJEOS. Let me know.

How do we know we have the latest? Has there been a revision since alpha was released?

I forgot to post my experience.

    Setup
Australian Delivered 2008 135i 6MT (Apparently in Australia we are slightly different, and need our own XDF's to be able to read the bin)
DCI, Procede (on Map 0 for Read)

    Attempt 1 - Read Only
All the systems threw up errors on the iDrive, and the Fuel pump ran non stop, and the wipers came on and wouldn't turn off. After 15mins, there was no progress on the read so I terminated it.
For that version of the software the errors and fuel pump were normal things as the software disables communication and takes control of everything. The wipers and no progress was a definite issue.

    Attempt 2 - Read Only
I received another version of the file, this one not disabling all of the communications, and hence not triggering any of the faults, the fuel pump or the wipers. After 15 minutes only a small amount of progress had been made and by the 30min mark the estimate time for completion was 5 hours on the read. After 2 hours I terminated the process as I had to go out.

    Attempt 3 - Read only
I fully charged the car battery, as I had received a low charge warning on the first attempt above, and left it on charge while performing the read. I also used a newer laptop with an SSD and had it plugged into the mains. The read performed flawlessly in about 78mintues with none of the errors or wipers going off.

So obviously the problem wasn't with the software but either an issue with the way the car handles low charge in the battery or the problem was with the original laptop I was using. The original laptop isn't that old, it did come out with Windows 7. The second laptop also came out with Windows 7, but I performed the read with Windows 8.

    Regards
    David

Ha, yes the read process is painful. First attempt about 45 minutes in, I realized my JB4 was still on Map 2, so I aborted and restarted. Second attempt, with 1 minute left per the app, my laptop ran out of battery. FML!!!

On another note, I noticed that when I turn my laptop screen off (but not in sleep mode) the read speed slows to a crawl. I guess I gotta restart with screen on with 100% battery and hope it doesn't crap out. Oh well, at least it's only a one-time thing.

I think the total read time would be around 90 minutes +/-, not 50-60 as others have estimated. I'm using a Windows Vista laptop if that matters.

Flashed a local last night. Read took 65 min and write was around 12-15. No issues whatsoever. Put Shiv's Stg1 file on his car and toggled the cat cels off.
