    2014 Porsche Macan interior spied and six engine choices revealed - Comes with 7-speed PDK transmission

    The Porsche Macan should make its debut relatively soon likely later this year at the Frankfurt Auto Show. Some details have leaked out although they can not be confirmed. The interior spy photo clearly shows design elements from the Panamera and new 991 generation 911. The center console also shows a PDK style shift lever so the entry level SUV will have a dual clutch transmission. Lack of a traditional automatic will likely affect tow capacity.

    A six speed manual though might be available although it can not be confirmed. A manual Macan Turbo sure sounds like a lot of fun to drive. So what are the engine choices? How about six of them:

    Diesels:
    • 2.0 TDI 4-cyl, 187bhp/258lb ft
    • 3.0 TDI V6, 261bhp/369lb ft

    Gasoline:
    • 2.0 TFSI 4-cyl, 237bhp/258lb ft
    • 2.0 TFSI 4-cyl hybrid ?
    • 3.0 TFSI V6, 288bhp/295lb ft
    • 3.0 Turbo V6 345 hp

    Only one of the diesel motors will make it to the USA likely. The 3.0 V6 Turbo is borrowed from the Panamera S facelift although it is detuned from 420 horsepower. It should be relatively easy to tune that right back up to 420 horsepower and then some. Not to mention the 3.0 TFSI supercharged V6 borrowed from Audi will be just as tunable as it is in the Q5 currently. Expect official confirmation in the next few months.

    2 liter diesel engine in an SUV is simple not what Porsche should be according to me. Getting way too far from the roots and what the brand should stand for imho. Let the other german can manufacturers dominate this nisch.

    Sure, if you count volume as "success". If that was my thing, I would probably not be here but visit "Toyota Corolla Fan Club" och the "VW Beetle followers web board" or whatever.

    To me, the Cayenne and Macan (and to some extent the Panamera) are models I understand Porsche must build in order to stay afloat financially. But that does not mean I like them and I never will: They are all compromises and stupid combinations of car types. Had somebody told me just 10 years ago Porsche would build an SUV with a 2 liter diesel engine I would literally think that person would be totally stupid. Porsche to me is not about that at all.

    These models are imho just for posers who are keen on sticking the Porsche logo onto whatever type of car and think that makes them drive a "sports car". An SUV will never, ever be a sports car. Thats it.

    (These are just my very personal thoughts and of course I respect if others just LOVE the Cayenne and Macan for whatever strange reason...)

    This is probably a good thing for Porsche and BMW for that matter, to come out with models in all price points. There's a reason why Toyota has been doing so well for so long. Maybe one can argue that Porsche/BMW diluting their line is bad for their brand image, but I don't hear people saying the LFA is bad because Toyota also makes econoboxes.

    I actually do count volume as success. At least partially. I mean think of it in a particular niche. You can't go volume for volume. But volume here? It's nice.

    Oh and btw I still drive a Cayenne daily.

    Volume is a financial success, sure, but not a measure of whether a car is good or not. To be honest, as a car enthusiast, I even see high volume as negative as it makes my brand and car less unique and more prone to fall in value.

    Well, we apparently have totally different tastes in cars, but sure, whatever floats your boat... Like I said in the end, this is my personal view only and I know that for a sad majority of consumers, Cayenne might even be their only Porsche experience in life.

    Success can also be measure by how well the specific vehicles do in their respective segment. The Cayenne and Panamera are some of best, if not the best in their segments. I am sure the Macan is headed that way as well.

    The point is that the value of a car model goes in the opposite direction to its production numbers. You will have to dig a lot deeper in the pockets to buy those RS:es produced in smaller volumes than those produced in larger volumes. The more volume oriented a car brand goes, the more value depreciation and even more importantly; brand core value dilution follows as a result of starting to produce cars too far away from the original core nisch. In the case of Porsche, the core nisch is fast sports car with a racing heritage. Not to build huge, heavy SUVs. A car type NEVER intended to run on a race track.

    Why do you think you can buy a second hand first gen. Porsche Cayenne Turbo S for next to nothing? As a matter of fact, the Cayenne itself was more than half of Porsche's global sales last year...

    Exactly. So finally we agree about that. Great if they make enough on these ugly SUVs to produce the 911, but that is the only advantage I see with these models.

    Maybe maybe not if they are getting volume here which is the whole point. We might not have RS ANYTHING if not for the Cayenne. Additionally, your premise is based on dollars that no longer apply like with the first RS.

    The Cayenne also isn't an RS. It's an SUV, it's not pretending to be a sports car.

    I think they're beautiful and fun to drive for an SUV. I'm glad Porsche makes them. It would be something else entirely if they made a bad SUV. They're here and they need to be here to preserve Porsche anyway so I'm all for it.
