    Warranty work ?

I am taking my 2010 535 in for some warranty repairs. I have put some M5/M6 replica wheels that are 19x8.5, +35mm offset versus the factory 17x7.5, 43mm offset wheels. Has anyone ever had the dealer deny warranty work for wheels? The wheel/tire combo is within 1/10" of the stock diameter and the combo weighs 2.5 lbs lighter than stock. The issues with the car are not wheel/tire related. Thanks!

Yes, You've voided your entire powertrain warranty by putting different wheels/rims on than the OE suggested ones.

If you would have bought a 135/335, it wouldn't be an issue, but since it's a 5 series there's a special rule in the BMW warranty documents stating that any changes including putting a license plate on the car, will void any and all warranties.

    Sorry about your luck.

It might help if you presented your issues... but your wheels didn't cause them.

Heavy sarcasm!Click here to enlarge I can't help but feel 135Hoser may have a point as ridiculous as his reply is. It seems to me like dealers often times look for any reason not to cover a repair. The dealership here in Utah appears to be one of them.

My issues for the dealer are: The car is slow to crank (no battery warning light yet), battery voltage is anywhere from 11.95 to 12.3V (car appears to charge just fine) battery does not stay fully charged and is on it"s way out, there appears to be something loose in the front driver's side suspension causing a rattle over bumps (noise was present with factory wheels/tires) and last, if the car is restarted roughly 1/2 an hour to 2-3 hours after last being run, it idles rough for 3-4 seconds after start up and then smooths out. No codes are stored. I think the last problem may be a leaky fuel injector. Thoughts?

You tell me who they are and what they are doing to you and leave the rest up to me.

My thoughts are it has to be the wheels. BMW designed the 3-Series without M6 wheels in mind. The car got M6 wheels replica wheels and now it is having an identity crisis as to what it is. The long cranks are due to it contemplating its existence. Way to go...

They'll def blame any suspension/drivability problems on the non-OEM spec wheels... The electrical & long crank problems are debatable, but you def didn't do yourself any favors

I guess I'll put the stockers back on to be safe. It's a PITA but probably the right call.

It's ridiculous to have to do that.

You have the Magnusson-Moss act to protect you in the USA with absurd nonsense like this.

Sticky, you'll get no arguement from me, I agree with you.

I just wish I had one of thse "mod friendly dealers" I hear people speak of. My dealership is so money hungry, I flew 1400 miles to buy my 535 in Chicago and drove it back to Utah.

Just put the OEM wheels on, it's worth it. If you have no codes I bet they give you trouble in trying to fix it. It's hard to fix something that is intermediate...but i guess we'll see.

What dealership did you buy from in Chicago?

Technically, it was in Naperville. It is about 30 miles from Chicago. The dealership was Bill Jacobs BMW. They have a great selection and overall it was a very good, relatively low BS experience. Just one problem, we flew there to pick up the car (price and details had already been agreed to pending my inspection) and they would not take my bank check even after verification of funds which was frustrating.

Why? Funds are verified so why not?

That's what I thought. They called, verified funds but still would not take the check. They claimed they got burned with a bogus bank check on an M5. They actually wanted me to write them a personal check as they claimed they had a business that would guarantee
funds. WTF! Thinking the bank check would be sufficient, I did not bring my checkbook. They actually made me apply for BMW financing just in case the checks were bogus...

They wouldn't take a certified bank check? Didn't you talk to them beforehand? What bank do you have? Thats really weird.

I did not talk to them before hand. It did not even cross my mind that it would be a problem. Technically, it was a certified credit union check. The dealership even called and verified funds but ultimately refused to accept it. Totally blew my mind they wanted a personal check.

Lesson learned-in the future I will ask even though in my mind it should not have been an issue.

Honestly nobody else probably would have thought it would be a problem either.
