Volkswagen entry level "Blue Sport" roadster back on the table?

This topic at this point is just exhausting. The car is perpetually on again off again without any definitive decision being reached. The car was put on indefinite hold last year while VW evaluated whether it made any sense considering it would take 50,000 yearly unit sales for the model to be profitable. VW design chief Walter de Silva believes the vehicle would be good for the brand and recently stated he is for it being built, "This is a vehicle that we particularly like, and we always have in mind."

Audi recently hinted that an R4 sports car may be coming to slot beneath the R8 although it would clearly offer overlap with the TT. The R4 would be based on this VW platform. If this car comes, the R4 will likely come. If they both come, maybe Porsche will offer a 550 successor. As of right now, it seems nobody knows what is really going on with this platform or car. The answer remains, "Maybe."

What I would like to see: RWD with the engine/turbo out of the GTI with GTI suspension bits starting at $26k
Then an "R" version with AWD, suspension bits/brakes from the golf-r and either the VR6 or the TSI with a k04 turbo instead of the IHI starting at 34k.

Would be a pretty fun car, especially with DSG and a custom BT set up pushing 500+whp...

That would be absolutely awesome. Especially if it had a manual trans option too.
