300 horsepower and completely defeatable stability control for next generation MKVII Golf R? Yep, and a lower price

This is pretty good news for VW Golf fans as the new Golf R will sport 300 horsepower which is a nice improvement over the MKVI Golf R in the USA which featured a 256 horsepower 2.0 liter turbocharged motor. It appears that basically the Golf R will mimic the Audi S3 which has 300 horsepower out of its 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder motor. So, nothing all that unique for the Golf R engine wise although it definitely is an improvement.

A nice piece of news though is that the traction control will finally be completely defeatable allowing one to prevent any electronic nannies from intervening. On the GTI this is not a possibility. The four wheel drive system will also be tweaked with a new differential designed to eliminate understeer.

The car will make its debut in at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September of this year and is expected to have a slightly lower asking price than the previous model. Hopefully there is also more to offer than just a re-skinned Audi S3 with some software changes.

The stability control in the 2012 R and Gti can be defeated. Someone cracked some coding that can be done via Vag Com

I hope this comes to the US with the DSG. Would be a really fun car with a gtx turbo on it

Yes but this can be defeated from the factory without need for any aftermarket coding, big difference.

Good point. I know it was a bone of contention for everyone who reviewed it/bought it.

Depends what else you are considering. Going to a very cool car though!
