This motor is very similar LOL. I've def had a string of bad luck. I got ripped off for a $1,600 tranny. The first shop did good mechanic work but was unable to tune the car, so after they finished all of the work (2 months) i got a car back that still needed a tune. I started on the etune but the car got hit and run and had to go to the body shop. I finished the tune and after the 3rd week of racing it overheated and blew up. Then..... I build a new motor but the machine shop ruins the head and I have to buy a new head.

I'd say a lot of the problems aren't really the car's fault. I picked up the new head and dropped it off to the shop last week. They will start measuring piston to valve clearance tomorrow then order the correct size head gasket. Once that's in, they'll put the car back together and HOPEFULLY everything is fine.

    we'll see soon hopefully

So..... While measuring PTV clearance last week, cyl 4 intake valves hit the piston. WTF.... Only cyl 4 and only the 2 intake valves. So, with this being the case we can only figure that something is wrong with the vlave job..... I bring the head back to the reputable machine shop Thursday. I talk to them today and of course they say the head is fine and not the problem. My question is WTF would cause 2 valves from one cyl to contact pistons when none of the others are? Can't be timing beacuse all of the intake valves would touch. They've measured piston top to deck height and they're all the same so it's not like i got a bad block or an odd rod or something. I'm prob going to have to send the head to a different machine shop for a second opinion. $#@!. OMG I just need to find some people that aren't going to screw me over to finish this damn car.

I just re-read this whole thread. First post was 18 DEC 2012. I've put less than 1,000 miles on this damn car since NOV 2012. I ran 1 auto x, 1 night of drag racing and 1 night of street racing. That's it..... In 10 months. WTF.

I don't have that kind of patience though. I'm an instant gratification type of guy LOL. I just don't want to give up on the car yet because I know none of this is the cars fault. I don't really have any more money to dump into it though. Fingers crossed it'll be good this time.

Besides these series of events that have occurred, how was the transition from the 335i to the Evo? I've been thinking about moving into an Evo VIII, and I feel I've grown spoiled with the amenities of the 335i. Idk if I could live without Bluetooth lol.

If its your DD, don't do it. I miss my 335i so much. Bluetooth, convenience access, being able to hear myself think, etc. evos are only fun/fast highly modified. Highly modified evos are not real dependable if you beat on them. If you're going straight out race car go Evo. It's the best handling funest car I've ever driven. It's definitely a race car though.

Thanks for your input. I guess I'll just start tracking the 335i, kind of a best of both worlds.

It happens with every platform....there is a certain line you cross and then it's loads of money, lots of downtime....in the end its not enjoyable IMO. It's better just to move on...

Op- sorry for your bad luck and I hope you get it fixed and on the road

139mi on breakin. Had to have the car towed to the shop today. I think the oil cooler failed. I caught it very early so no major damage was done. I'll hear from the shop tomorrow to confirm. Maybe it was just a loose hose. Idk. It ran great so far though
