well, looks like it was just a rocker arm failure. WTF. it got jamed up in the camshaft and the motor stalled. THANK GOD. no valves floated, no piston contact!!!! HOORAY. it does look like it needs new rockers, lifters, and valve guides or something though so the money hemmoraging is still not over.

$398 isn't too bad. Could have been worse but I understand your frustration.

Pretty close to parting it out to the frame. I just ran some numbers and I'm thinking I can get about $21k from the parts and the rolling chasis with a good title. That's plenty enough for me. I'm going to put some feelers out locally and if there's enough interest in the parts, it'll be just a frame real soon Click here to enlarge

If not, I'll trust that the shop is going to make things right and fix what they screwed up.

Update: Looks like the shop did not screw up. Looks like there isn't enough valve clearance. Machine shop (best in the area) said he'd bet money that's the problem. Head was warped so had to get machined straight, block was decked .008 to make sure we had a good surface for the head gasket. My new head gasket is .051. Machine shop says i need to go up to at least .071 or .080 to avoid piston to valve contact. Problem is this is going to reduce my compression ALOT. Not bad if I was looking for great pump gas numbers but I'm not LOL. This is an e85 car. Only other options are to cut the grooves bigger in the piston which requires disassembly of the motor. That's not happending. Getting smaller duration cams, which will again affect performance especially top end. That's not going to happen. I guess I'll try out this super thick head gasket.

Ya that much thicker is going to reduce your compression a bit.

The saga is nearing it's end. What a failure this project has turned out to be. Not even the car's fault either. Most of the problems have turned out to be idiots working on the car. So, I my shop got the head back from the machine shop and was a little sceptical of the work done. he brought it to a reputable shop in nashville and come to find out the last machine shop totally $#@!ed the head. it's still warped and now there's not enough head left to make it straight. I've decided to cut my losses and part the car out. I'm getting a new head, returning to stock and selling/trading stock. what a $#@!ing disaster.

Lesson learned, reputable shops charge more because they deserve it. PERIOD.

The other machine shop just sucks basically. they milled the head and it was still warped. they replaced 8 bent valves but the valves still leak? WTF did i pay them for? Now the head has been milled so much there isn't enough head left to mill it straight. that's why my valves hit my piston on initial startup after the motor build. the machine shop $#@!ed the head up. not knowing that we sent it back to them to fix the bent valves. then they $#@!ed that up. so i sent it to the place that did my motor in Nashville, (my machine shop of choice) and they said the head is $#@!ed. the engine builder recommended the idiots at the machine shop that $#@!ed my head up.......

So why not name the shop and post your entire experience with them so other people don't go through this?
