    03 EVO 8 Build

So, I've wanted an Evo for a very long time but never ended up buying one for some reason. I had an 09 335i that I built for almost 2 years to 440HP/480TQ JB4 G5 ISO + FBO + meth + e85. I was signed up for a set of Vargas Stage 2s but I was getting the itch for a new car and they were taking a little too long. I pulled my self off the list and bought a set of RBs. Well, I was offered a deal on an 03 EVO 8 + cash and parts for my 335i. The deal was too good to pass up and I traded the 335i with all mods, stock parts and the RBs that were never installed. I got a nearly perfect 9 year old EVO. The only blemishes were peeling on the wing which happends to all evo 8 wings, a tight HVAC knob which happens on all evos and the guys father in law backed into the EVO the day before I picked up it. Bumper damage was minimal but the guy paid threw in an FP HTA3586r turbo with intake pipe and oil return lines. So below are the mods that the car came with.

2003 Mitsubishi Evolution in Mint Condition
    Black on Black interior
    Evo MR Black Recaro seats
    72k miles
Car is DynoTuned on ecuflash making 427whp at 21 lbs on pump gas Appearance:
18" ADVAN RS wheels on Nitto NT05 tires
    Evo 7 Taillights
    Swift Springs
    Alpine IDA X001 Radio
    Yellow Fogs, Stock HIDs

    Performance:
    HKS 272 cams
    Supertech dual valve springs
    ARP head studs
    RNR GT35R turbo kit
    RNR Manifold
    GT3582R turbo
    Tial Wastegate, recirculated into downpipe
    RS-R 3" downpipe stainless
    Full 3" exhaust Apexi muffler
Race Front mount - 4" Precision Core
    Stainless Polished IC Piping
    HKS Race Bov Recirculated
    Dejon intake w/ k&n filter
    Precision 1000cc Injectors
    Walbro 255lph
    Koyo Aluminum Radiator
    EXEDY Twin-Plate Clutch
    Small Battery Kit
Greddy Profec-B Spec 2 Electronic Boost Controller
    Zeitronix wideband
    Project Mu Brakepads front/rear
    Amsoil Fluids in trans/t-case/rearend
    RoyalPurple XPR oil in engine

As soon as I got the car I started doing a bunch of research. I knew the EVO in its current form was not as fast as the 335i I had just gotten rid of so I needed more speed. The owner was not sure if the internals were stock or not but knew that the gaskets were not stock. I was hoping that the internals were built but was going to have my shop look to make sure. My original intent was to put the HTA86r on the car that I was given with it. With the head work that was already done and hopefully built internals I could Rev that thing out to 9k RPMs and the lag from that big turbo really wouldn't matter. So I bought a set of HKS 280 cams that would go well with that type of powerband. I had a hard decision to make regarding fueling too. I knew I needed more octane but didn't know if I wanted to go meth or e85. I came across a really good deal on an Aquamist HFS-6 so I jumped on that. I ran meth in the 335i and loved it so that decision wasn't that difficult. I picked up a few other goodies that I'll list below but my plans changed when I dropped the car off at the shop. The internals were stock. At that point I knew it wouldn't be safe to rev more than 8k RPMs and that big turbo was just going to be too laggy for that RPM range. Now I had a set of cams I didn't need too. To make things worse, the auction on ebay for the HFS-6 I wanted so badly, I lost it at the very last second. So my entire build just changed. I have now decided to run e85 and picked up a nice set of Kelford 272s very cheap on the forum. The car goes in tomorrow to put in all of the parts I have so far and a retune. I picked up a 4.11 ultimate ratio Sheppard transmission and have a transfer case at sheppard right now getting upgraded. The install for those will come next month.

    Parts getting put on tomorrow
    ID 2000cc injectors
    400LPH Walboro e85 Fuel Pump
    FIC Fuel Rail
    AEM Adjustable Cam Gears
    Kelford 272 Cams
    Gates Kevlar timing belt
Baschur Ported Intake Mani and Throttle Body
HKS Exhaust (the Apexi that came on it drones REALLY bad)

Cosmetically I've picked up a perfect EVO 8 wing, a JDM rear bumper, HVAC relocation kit, 2 din dash kit, Vortex Generator (roof spoiler) and am looking into 2 din Navis right now.

Previous owner works at a performance shop that specializes in EVOs. They have the one of the only AWD dynos around. When I say around, it's the closest at 3 hours away.

Yeah, I ended up with over $10k cash after my 335i trade and it didn't last long for sure. There are SO many parts for this thing. The best thing though is since I still have stock internals, I've been looking for internal upgrades or short blocks to buy and I can get a 650HP 2.4L long rod engine capable of revving to 10k RPMs for ~$2300. That's way less than my RBs cost on the 335i LOL.

Sick car... Love Evo's... If i had an Evo, that thing would be built with a front facing 6266, at that point screw daily drive ability. ^^BTW, 10's for Evo's isn't all that impressive... if you can touch 600, you should be running 9's easily.

Yeah I know, just saying that 10's will be very easy. My friend had one with 500whp and ran 10.5 the first time ever making a pass in it. With experience and 100 more hp 9's will be like clockwork.

Funny you say Front facing. There's a FF twin scroll turbo kit for sale right now dirt cheap. The Evo is my DD though and you def can DD it like that. It looks SO sick though.

Dropped the car off yesterday for some work. Included some pics of some of the items. Hoping to have it back Monday. Tranny should be here next week. Still no word from Sheppard yet on the TC I sent them but I'm hoping that will be back by the 5th of Jan. I may have to go on a business trip for a little while in Jan but that won't hold up the build. It actually should be complete by the time I get back with everything I plan on doing for now. Engine build/internals isn't going to happen for a little while.

So talked to the shop yesterday and we've decided to run all e85 fuel lines and install an automotive fuel pressure regulator on the FIC fuel rail.

This is going to be a flex-fuel setup?
