Audi R8 E-tron sets the Nurburgring record for fastest lap with production electric car - 8:09

Congratulations to Audi for running their electric car where the big boys play, on the Nurburgring. The R8 E-tron laid down a very impressive 8:09.099 laptime. The lithium-ion battery in the R8 stores enough energy for a distance of about 134 miles. On paper this should allow for about 10 laps of the 12.92 mile Nurburgring although that distance number likely shrinks with use of full power. The battery also pushes the curb weight to 3,924 pounds making the laptime even more impressive.

This achievement shows Audi is dead serious about moving forward with the E-tron R8 and also keeping the performance level fairly high. With 3,924 pounds and around 300 horses the chassis is clearly dialed in with this laptime exceeding cars with more power showing electric performance is not only viable but it will improve considerably in the future.

How they call it the fastest production electric car when it's not a production ready car?

How did Cadillac claim a 7:59 time for the CTS-V when it had interior stuff removed, a roll cage, suspension tuned for the 'ring and a supercharger tuned to compensate for power lost at altitude? Ring times are quite meaningless.

Wow, did not realize Cadillac did all that.

Apparently the production model will be just like it.

Geez - that's interesting. I found your reference - and is now making me rethink a lot of 'ring times...

Back on topic - coolest electronic car in my opinion is this... I am curious how much they are going to want for it.

Here is the quiet - almost uneventful video (still watching it however) if anyone wants to check it out. All you can hear is the subtle whine of the motor and tire squeal. Click here to enlarge

Just seems like it is coasting the whole time almost without any engine noise. Going to take getting used to.

That is fast no doubt. What are the power specs on this thing and weight ratio ??

These things are momentum cars and build power very differently and thus have to be driven in a different manner to extract 10/10th's. Who was driving ??

I still don't understand how it did so fast with this approx weight ratio. 4000lbs/300hp
