Took the Mustang to the Track tonight...

And had a blast. It's not the fastest car in the world, but a lot of fun drive. The car belongs to my girlfriend, and is a 2007 Mustang GT automatic. I don't care what anybody says about these cars being a pos, it doesn't take away the feeling of driving it. Looks aren't the best, but it's not a bad car to use as a fun street/strip car.

Anyway, the point of tonight's track outing was to see how much of a difference the mods we did made. We purchased a JLT Series 3 Intake, Bama 93 race tune, and Pypes O/R x-pipe. This is in addition to the Steeda axel backs already on it. The advertised gain with these mods was ~40whp. I was skeptical. Needless to say, I left the track Impressed.

    Stock runs: 13.9@99 2.1 60'
    Modded: 13.5@103 2.1 60'

Totally worth the money spent, and there is definitely more in it with better rubber and weather. The exhaust sounds amazing. I was worried it would be raspy, but that is not the case with these axel backs. The intake added a good amount of volume, and is definitely letting this thing breath a lot better. I think the new intake is 110mm.

Here's some video, racing a manual gt with gears, bolt-ons, cams, and suspension. I got a better e.t. every time we ran. I think his best of the night was 13.8@108.

Average here is 12's at 112. You think the auto is holding back or conditions?

This is a 4.6l so quite a bit more sluggish than the 5.0's you're used to seeing.

half a second in the 1/4 mile for basic mods is really good

Dead on with numbers, as every 10 HP ususaly equals .1 reduction. Note: this is with normal street cars/tires/weight/and HP. So you are dead on my friend. Besides, I still have a soft spot in me for StangsClick here to enlarge

I couldn't be happier with the results. I just need to get my '60 down. I was getting 2.0's at the beginning of the night, but I hadn't figured out where to shift this thing yet. I know this car has bottom 13's in it as it sits now. These runs were also with a half tank of gas. Next mod is going to be some 3.73 gears, but I'm skeptical if they will really help or not. I'm banging the rev limiter in 3rd across the line now, with shorter gearing I'll be forced into 4th which really bogs this thing down. I need to find some guys that actually race these things to answer some questions for me rather than the typical Mustang guy who wants 4.10's+ because it "feels" faster.

Your ET will actually be dramatically improved with gears for a car with poor power to weight like this one. I think 3.73s or 4.10s with some good tires will put you in the low 13s easy.

I need to see where the point of diminishing returns is. I have witnessed first hand what happens when you go to short with the gearing. I think the 3.73's will be the best bet for us because it will keep the rpm's reasonable on the highway.

I'm actually thinking about saying screw the gears. Better off just saving for a turbo kit. They aren't expensive at all for this car. A lot of the base kits make mid 400's out of the box. That's plenty for Brittany, and the stock motor.
