BMW Mid-Engine Sports Car to feature Hybrid S85 V10 based powertrain?

Autozeitung.de is reporting that the upcoming BMW mid-engine sports car based on the Vision Efficient Dynamics concept will have the S85 V10 out of the E60 M5 along with two small electric motors giving it 600 horsepower. It seems that the car is being positioned as a direct rival to the Porsche 918 spyder.

The car will have ability to drive about 40 miles in full electric mode. It will be set up as an extremely lightweight 2 + 2. It would also be longer and wider than the Vision concept car. Chassis would be aluminum and fitted with carbon fiber bodywork keeping the weight in the 3300 pound range.

Price will most likely compete with that of the SLS, just under $200k.Did Autozeitung get this right? We don't know, we find the prospect of a naturally aspirated S85 V10 in a new car that is years away tough to swallow especially with tightening emission standards and the switch to forced induction having been already announced. We will see what develops.

It will rape them with no lube. They will weep if this happens, and I think they should name it the M1

Considering they made the decision to protect the M1 name the only thing it could possibly be fitted to in the future would be something like this.

Exactly. As we all know the M1 in its day raped anything on the road, and this seems like it would do the same.

Interestd, but it's probably going to be $$$$$$. The 918 spyder is rumored to cost anywhere from $400k to $650k.

Those comments only come from 1 mentally challenged Audi fanboy... who doesn't realize Audi's supercar is just a parts bin gallardo.

    That design simply looks stunning!

As for the powerplant...if they have a variant of the S85 +twin elec motors with a low weight chassis/body, this thing is destined to be amongst the super car gods.

Beautiful car, build it with a conventional powertrain and I'd be all over it!
