    This is a Ferrari-beating Jeep

Historian John Dalberg's oft-quoted dictum that "power tends to corrupt, absolute power corrupts absolutely" can be sprinkled liberally across the automotive spectrum. Anyone familiar with an early Saab 900 Turbo (RIP) will attest to this. Here though, it takes on a grisly significance. This is the Hennessey HPE800 Twin Turbo Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8.That 800 in the moniker stands, naturally, for how many horses have been strapped under the Santa-spec red bonnet. 805bhp, to be precise, that ride shotgun with 823 torques to give a 0-60mph time of 3.1 seconds. That's fractionally, fractionally faster than a Ferrari 458 Italia. Mr Hennessey tells us it'll do the standing quarter mile in 10.9 seconds, travelling at 130mph.

TopGear drives the new Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8
That massive 6.4-litre V8 gets rebigulated to 7 litres, treated to two turbos and mated to an upgraded transmission and torque converter. It also gets 20in wheels, much leather and Alcantara, a Brembo brake system, lowered sports suspension and a carbon fibre lip spoiler.
Says Mr Hennessey: "This vehicle is designed for the performance minded driver who live in Aspen or Moscow and wants to be the fastest in all weather conditions."
Or indeed, the driver who enjoys plastering looks of sheer surprise across supercar owners at the lights. Yikes. Just 24 will be built, with prices starting from 150,000 ($235,000).

The guy is a major $#@!. When a few of his customers started posting that their cars were sitting in his shops while the stock parts from them were being sold off into other vehicles he went through a meltdown like no other. His true colors showed what an elitist prick he really is, he talked down to everybody that didn't drive a lambo or a viper. A major scumbag surfaced and the way he threw his words around even if he shot you in the face he'd try to justify it and make it out your fault. Absolutely no remorse at all from him.

Now when we talk about Lingenfelter, when you google the words fraud, lawsuit etc merged together. Nothing at all comes up. Now that is a company built on reputation.

I wouldn't buy a thing from him... A good friend sued him after he rebuilt his Ram SRT10 motor and it was blown 5 mins after it was unloaded. Valve to piston issues and he claimed it wasn't his issue nor was it warrantied. 2yrs and lawyers fee's later he won and made them buy the truck, recoup his down pmt and cover legal fees. he still lost money.

A client took his Veyron to him the exhaust he had advertised and tune. Well since he had not actually built one, nor tuned one the car sat for 3 months before my client threatened legal action. He immediately refunded the down pmt and covered the shipping costs. The guy is just a fraud in book. His cars are balls out fast but his advertisements are often questionable.

Many shady tuners/builders with connections like that will meticulously build a car(sometimes even have a 3rd party get involved to help!),go over it a dozen times, make sure its 100% and THEN deliver it to the magazine for whatever test/shootout the mag happens to be doing. They will do the same thing when it comes to their very own personal car too. They get a ridiculous amount of sales from the exposure so they make sure it performs flawlessly....BUT when it comes to building one for a customer they could care less and that seems to be the issue with hennessy and a few others. That's when $#@! starts falling off, breaking, blowing up etc.

I had a similar experience with a well known high performance engine builder/tuner that did a bike for me...had all kinds of magazine articles about his builds and how fast they were etc. Bought the bike brand new for $9500,spent $13000 with this dude building it and it lasted all of 300 miles before dropping a valve&destroying the engine
People get shot for doing $#@! like that by customers who spend BIG money

He loved the truck and actually bought the Quad Cab version after that and rocked a simple Procharger setup on it...
