Article: DP Motorsport Porsche 911 body kit drops almost 500 pounds

Early 911's are not exactly heavy cars. The lightest examples tip the scales at around 2400 pounds. DP Motorsport shaves around 450 pounds from that for a vehicle that weighs under 2000 pounds. How do they do it? Well, starting with a 1973 911 as a base the carbon fiber body kit replaces bumper, hood, fenders, spoiler, and even the roof panel. They also replace the windows with plexiglass. The interior is stripped out leaving a vehicle with a weigh of only 870 kilograms, impressive.

how is that supposed to be a 964? It looks almost nothing like it....it looks more like a mid 80s RSR. 80s taillights and headlights and bumpers. I had a customers car back in the day that looked exactly like this.

Ah gotcha...I just re-read the article and was like WTF I swore it said 964..LOL

The weight savings is there. On the RSR we cut all the sheetmetal off, and replaced everything with fiberglass...including the roof. Only the windshield was left glass, everything else was lexan.

Stripped down the interior, cut out all the unnecessary wiring (over 30lbs of it!).

I think with the cage installed, we sat at a hair over 1800lbs without driver. That was sitting in race trim...with 17x11 Fikse wheels, and Hoosier slicks.
