2012 Volswagen Golf R priced at $33,990 in the USA and offering 256 horsepower

Volkswagen has released the official pricing and specifications for what will be the most powerful Golf ever sold in the United States, the 2012 Golf R. Yes, the 2.0T in the Golf R even puts out more power than the R32 that was sold. The Golf R features Haldex all wheel drive and a 6 speed manual transmission. So that one does not have to choose between two or four doors, both styles will be offered in R trim. The car will be available for sale in early 2012.

I was talking to fastgti about this car, I was going to pre-order one but I needed a car sooner... It's a pretty cool car... Once you throw a bigger snail in it should move

Not a bad looking car, for some reason was never really a fan of VW's but we'll see how this one does

Other people eat shit and die.

Not too bad. AWD, 6 speed, and a lot of room in the motor to play with.

I was a little disappointed they rated it at such low HP only 256 hp. What else kinda got me was APR has a stage 4 kit released for this car already in Australia and its only trapping 119.. which is pathetic. For a 30 grand full motor build and big turbo you only trap 119. esp with AWD. I would hope to see at least 125+ in the trap. I even commented this to APR facebook saying they need to fix that problem lol. They replied, "Why would we do anything about it? Are you telling me results at the track MUST be in absolutes? Low 11s is quick." I didn't reply anything back. W/e though I would expect much more than this from APR.

I'm going to stick to getting rid of my balt soon and getting a used 335 sedan. Can't go wrong with that.

It will be interesting to see the battle between the new focus st and this car. I am assuming that the new st tt 4 will be priced just below that of the mustang gt which starts at 30k.

Cool, but too pricey and doesn't sound half good as a VR6.

Man a Golf for $34k..since when did everybody in the U.S.A. become filthy rich? The Focus ST looks like a much better buy even if it's FWD.

34k for a Golf sounds way too mucho for me. $#@! that! A Stage 4 will only give you 119. Forget it.........

Guys, you have to remember this is not a just a Golf. This is an R. A very reputable emblem in the VW world. It will not come with regular plaid seats, it has leather, it is AWD package a great motor. Its not just for power, its an all around package of a great car. You can't compare a ford to the vw, they're not even the same breed. BTW the stage 4 was probably on mild settings. A stage 4 can be tuned to whatever your needs are, it is a whole custom stage 4 kit with APR.

Not really, all you have to do is look at what else is offered in that price range, here is what I'd rather spend my money on:

    1. Ford Mustang GT 5.0
    2. Nissan 370z
    3. WRX STi
    4. Used E55 AMG

I could probably list more cars that are much more lucrative.

$34K for a Golf is too much, no matter what kind of letter is written after it's name.

I guess people only realize this now but the price hasn't increased by much. The original msrp for the 08 R32 was 32,990... To each their own, at this point paying 35k for a car is all opinion. Non of you guys would want to get a cobalt ss either. I'm just speaking of the facts about the car not what you can get otherwise lol..

    E55 isn't manual.

Mustang and STI are the only good comparisons although the STI is ugly.

I don't really care for a manual in that car.
