    R35 GTR Replacement on it's way? R36 in 2013?

Piston Heads is reporting the GTR's successor is being worked on.

With the 911 GT2 being the car Nissan likes to benchmark, that puts a lifespan of 5-6 years on the current R35 - according to our rudimentary maths.

Unsurprisingly, Andy also confirmed to us that the next-generation GT-R will be an evolution of the current platform, and will therefore retain the twin-turbocharged V6 and rear transaxle configuration.

In that respect, its not going to be a massive one-off investment, Palmer told PH. Its more a case of putting a bit of money into the programme every year, to make sure we keep the GT-R where it needs to be.
Sounds like they will be just be tweaking the current car and improving the breed like they did with the R32, R33, and R34.

you think they'll try to compete with the gt2rs? doesnt that thing have like 600+? or will they save the rs battle for the v-spec Click here to enlarge the normal gt2 is 550? should be a good comparo. but wouldnt the turbo, with its awd, be the better comparison, or is Nissan shooting above their mark more than just price?

To go OT for a sec- would the consensus here be that in the <$100k area of modded cars the GTR is the way to go?

Most people feel exactly this way. I feel the M3 is the way to go but many disagree with that as the GTR is an easier and more modded platform.

One thing is for sure, the GTR is not a bad way to go.

You won't be able to mod too much if going for a used, good example 997tt. You also can't get the PDK in this range.

I mean you have to get a used example if you want to be in the under 100k range and to get a good example you leave yourself very little room for mod money in that range.

A GTR makes more sense if modding for that price range.

You act like daily driven GTR's and 997t tt's in the 9's grow on trees. You have 3 GTR's in the 9's and two of them aren't daily drivers and the third one probably isn't either. You can mod an E46 M3 for less money than of the cars mentioned and make more power. Run 9's? Question of tracion and driver skill, AWD obviously gives and advantage. I'm just not into the GTR as it is a playstation.

I never asked for a magazine comparison or info on GTRs running 9s PLEASE read the post again

PS I dont care what magazine writers think. Most of them cant even buy a M3 let alone a 997TT and in the end its a subjective comparison and not based on numbers.

Switzer Performance Innovations (SPI) of Ohio, USA, is a renowned tuner of Porsche products, specifically for the Porsche 996 and 997 models. At some point SPI, through owner Tym Switzer wondered what the limits of a tuned 997 would be, how much horsepower a stock engine could take.

Soon SPI was working on this ‘experiment' and the results are here for all to see. The car aptly named the SLEDGEHAMMER makes over 850 all-wheel horsepower running on racing fuel. That translates to over 1000hp at the crank. The figures were produced from a 997 twin turbo engine through extensive ECU tuning, the use of SPI-developed headers, a sports exhaust system, an intercooler package and SPI-tuned GT30R turbos. Every part of the system was constantly metered and tested by SPI during development.

On tar the SLEDGEHAMMER creates something close to what would be considered magical numbers. The 0 - 60mph time is consistently in the mid-2 seconds, and its massive tractability is shown by a 60 - 130mph time of less than 5 seconds. The quarter mile is trashed in 9.796 seconds and 195mph was almost achieved at the Texas mile, an abandoned air strip in Texas.

Any interested party can purchase himself a SLEDGEHAMMER package for US$49,990 through SPI's website. If that is a bit out of reach at least check out the video showing the fourth and final quarter mile attempt as well as a whistling dyno run

SLEDGEHAMMER package for US$ 49,990 You could spend as much or more on a m3 and you couldn't even touch this 997tt

I'm just saying, some people prefer the M3.

To get a 997tt in the 9's you have to build the motor, impossible for 100k.

No E92 M3 is running 9's with street tires and it won't happen on street tires, it is RWD. Obviously AWD has its advatanges as stated... as well as its disadvantages.

I disagree, some people even think it is better. The GTR is a robot, no soul.

I mean what, you are basing the better on 1/4 mile times? Seriously?

Switzer's stuff is overpriced. What are you talking about? No 997tt has even run 150 mph in the 1/4 and we have a couple BMW's turning those traps for far less money. If it is about drag racing plenty of E36 guys have cars that can take the Switzer 997tt with the car and mods costing less than the sledgehammer package. The GTR and 997tt are overrated.

Huh, who said that? It is better in mind, the 997tt can never be as balanced but the M3 can be faster and many are. An SC M3 is better than a 997tt in fun factor and performance.

Not to mention the M3 handles better, the 997tt just has more power stock being twin turbo.
