2013 Shelby Cobra Mustang GT500 to ditch supercharger, get 5.8 liter twin turbo V8 with 650 HP

Looks like Ford just just took things to the next level, holy $#@!:

UPDATE (June 30, 2011): FIN now knows the liter of the new 2013 Shelby GT500. Our source within Ford has now made mention that the SVT engine was developed from the Mustang GT's 5.0L V8! With 650 horsepower, the average for a liter will be an astonishing 130 each!

To “one up” General Motors’ releasing of the 556 horsepower Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, Ford’s SVT will give the 2013 Shelby GT500 a heart transplant. Unlike the current supercharged 5.4-liter, the new engine will be turbocharged. Though FIN cannot bring you the engine's new displacement, a 5.0 and 5.8 have been rumored. We can tell you that the engine will deliver a Camaro-killing 650 horsepower according to our sources. This upgrade will make the 2013 GT500 the most powerful, factory made Mustang ever.

It might be a 5.0 liter though.

Either way, this thing will rape.

Insane man. Those things will be running 9's within a couple months of their release given the cult like following and vast aftermarket segment.

As much as I hate to admit it, I've always admired the latest Mustang from afar. Now that they are giving this thing turbos, I am sold 100%!

I'd just have to do something about that big ugly chrome badge on the back .. but that's nothing a bit of black vinyl can't fix!

    I'm going to start saving!

Literally said "HOLY $#@!" when I read that.

I already liked the 5.4 DOHC with the twin-screw. This thing is just going to be insane.

That's more than a one up. I can't wait to see how they lay the motor and turbo system out!

with the engine, and the quality seems better than GM but ford needs to better the suspension, rid the live rear axle and lower the weight. A regular Corvette beats the GT500 in a straight due to bigger rear tires, better suspension, and much less weight and the GT500 has over 100hp more, and if you add some turns well its even worse for the stang.

As much as I wish it were true... The car running around the ring is a likely a track tuned beast in the vein of the Boss 302 Laguna Seca. However the TT Ecoboost setup on a 6.0L motor is/has been tested. No telling which is coming in the end. If they go TT it will be insane

The video showing the new mustangs at the ring sounds a lot like a blower to me. Where did you get that qoute sticky? I have heard there is no room for twins. If I would guess it would be a true twin screw on an al block dohc 5.8 making near 650hp....

If that car gets turbos, it is going to be a real problem for a lot of people.

The interesting thing is IF it got turbos. That would be insane and the ability to upgrade with an aftermarket that's one of the biggest brand specific in the world could spell trouble for many a car. Imagine a TT GT500 with dp's,fmic, tune & meth. OMG

I'd want one... maybe Ford can even figure out how to add a dual clutch transmission.
