    • Schrick N54 cams doing work - VTT GC closed deck built motor N54 makes over 900 lb-ft of torque at the wheels

      A lot of talk about aftermarket N54 camshafts in the forums but little posted in the way of results. VTT tested out Schrick's high lift option and showed an efficiency gain. More tuning will take place but topping 900 lb-ft of torque at the wheels is great to see.

      Hey guys. Had the car on the dyno again today, with the new cams, manifold, besides everything the same as before. 100% E85, 85% DI, a little PI mixed in, GC turbos, etc

      Cams are WORKING! The car made 750WHP on about 18-19 psi of boost. It took closer to 22-23 lbs to do that previously. We wanted to push a little bit so put the high map back in, and this is the first time we cannot hook up on the dyno in 4th. Dumped VHT on the tires, and roller. No dice, in 4th gear as soon as it comes on boost, redline instantly.

      This means we had no choice but to run 5th gear, 1st run in 5th with the higher map it hooked up, misfired at 5500, and I was astounded to see 822WHP/862WTQ.

      Fixed the misfire (plug related) and turned boost up a little, and it put down this run you see 830WHP/902WTQ by far the most TQ ever made by an N54, and honestly pretty unreal. Power was a little less than before, I think this is related to the 5th gear pull. The graph is also not near as pretty because of the slow nature of a higher gear pull.

      Interesting to note car makes 500WTQ at 2600, and 650 at 3K, it also holds 750WHP to redline. These motors are the real deal!

      On to the bad news, these turbos are tapped out, they have no business making this power, and they cannot breath up top to feed these cams. If we truly want to test the cams UP TOP, we need to put some bigger turbos on the car. Stage 3 will be back on it in the near future so we have more properly suited turbos for this kind of power.

      Either way, its fun to see what the N54 can do when its moving some air...

      Highest run was done on 28.8 peak boost, and 20.8 at redline, poor turbos, just can't keep up. 100% WGDC by 6000RPM. MHD read slightly higher as usual, but our AEM sensor confirms actual manifold boost.

        Idles sounds exactly the same, I can tell no difference. The beauty of Vanos I guess. I literally wanted apples to apples. I did not do any tuning. Just ran them on the same 3 maps I have been running for 6 months. Low map is 160 load, medium is 180 load, and high is 200 load. Those are the only difference in the 3 maps, everything else stays the same. The 180 load map picked up so much power on less boost. It used to make around 730-740 at 21-22 psi, it made consistent 750WHP on 18.8 psi. This is the graph is put down on 18.8 psi...Click here to enlarge

        Its the 5th gear pull. If could get it to hook in 4th, it would have laid more power up top than last time. It was making peak power at redline every run in 4th, and was well above last time on the dyno, as soon as I put the high load map in it, that was it, no more traction on the dyno. We have NEVER had a traction issue on the dyno. First time for us. I thought the clutch was slipping at first, but I had someone watch, was the tires

        There was nothing wrong with them last time, I posted as much after I figured it out. I had bad vanos solenoid causing all the codes. Even when I put stock cams they persisted, replaced before, and was fine. Was just too lazy to put them back in. Since I had the head off this time, wasn't putting stock cams back in

        This is well beyond impressive, like blown away. Excellent proof of who VTTO is and what they are about. Proud to say I own at set of GC's. Time for PR's new coils to try and tame those misfires. But in the mean time you guys need to go celebrate. This is so exciting that if I didn't have all my other projects torn down right now I would be putting the turbos on my N54, potentially the most powerful engine I own, and that includes some really high powered stuff. Daily driver rules all LOL.

        an overlay it moot. Because its 4th, and 5th gear pulls. If I can put slicks on the car, and get it to hook on the dyno, might be something to look at. I'm not here to convince people to buy cams. They work fine, people can buy them or dont.

        What I can try to do. We got plenty of medium map pulls in 4th. It made more power than before on less boost. I can pull an old graph from the medium map, and overlay those. Should provide some insight

        Yes would be interesting to see as much of an apples to apples comparison as possible, even at lower power levels.

        You should do the overlay AFTER @V8Bait has a chance to properly tune it and play with the VANOS.
