    • Audi pulling out of Le Mans after 2017 and Porsche may join them - VW cutting back costs

This is sad news for fans of motorsport if true. This report comes from German publication Auto Motor und Sport and there is no official statement from the VW Group confirming it. It certainly makes sense though as Volkswagen tries to reduce expenses in the wake of gigantic fines resulting from dieselgate.

Le Mans racing is a luxury it seems they can no longer afford. Not to mention that the VW Group was not just fielding Audi teams but Porsche as well. Porsche won this year's Le Mans so it will be a shame if they have to close up shop after so much effort was put in.

Things might not just stop with Le Mans. Audi may be forced to quit DTM racing and one has to wonder if Volkswagen will continue in the World Rally Championship.

This certainly is potentially a big blow to motorsports world wide but it is hard to shed any tears for the Volkswagen Auto Group and the mess they made.
