This is the Audi R8 V10 Plus launch control system in action on the dragstrip

The Audi R8 received a facelift with a dual clutch transmission as you are likely well aware of. The R8 V10 Plus model is the highest performance R8 model available and it has slightly less weight than the standard V10 (roughly 100 pounds) and a power boost to 542 horses from the naturally aspirated and direct injected 5.2 liter V10. Motor Magazine got a chance to test the car and they took it to the drag strip to try out the launch control function.

The system is relatively easy to activate. ESP is turned off, put your foot on the brake, put it in gear, and press the sport button. Simply put your foot on the gas after this and let go of the brake when you are ready to launch. The car takes off like a rocket to say the least.

It just jumps off the line and switches through the gears lightning quick as you expect a dual clutch to change gears. Very impressive performance off the line and through the gears. So where the hell is the acceleration data?

The reviewer states 0-60 comes up in 3.5 seconds but does not state how this was measured. He also states the 1/4 mile goes by in 11.7 seconds at 'over 200 km/h' but why not just show the timeslip? Seriously, you are on the dragstrip and you do not post the slip showing the 60 foot, 1/8 mile, 1/4 mile, elapsed time, trap speed, etc.?

An amateur timeslip would provide more useful data than this 'professional' video. That said, the launch control function certainly works well.

The sound alone is pure sex to my ears. I want one! The launch control is very impressive, I didn't notice much lag between brake release and engagement - of course the V10 helps with that! Amazing ride.

    Looks good.

Although the weight reduction of the V10Plus is something of a chimera as a big part is achieved by using the smaller fuel tank of the R8 V8 model.
