F150 V6 and Ecoboost Turbo 1/4 mile times

The turbo motor is pretty impressive, especially in how it outpaces the V8. I think they should throw this motor in the Raptor.

The other thing I'm wondering is, why the hell don't they have a mid-size truck with this motor? Why no Ranger in the USA anymore?

I can't see the vid (probably my computer), you're saying the 3.5L TT beat the 6.2L v8 in acceleration testing? They need to uncork the Boss, 38X HP is not impressive anymore for a gasoline powered V8 truck. Won't happen via Ford anytime soon for obvious reasons but the Boss can go to 7.5L without compromising structural integrity.

Ranger platform needs MAJOR updating. I think if it comes back the top choice will be what will be offered in the new Exploder a DI turbo 4 banger with 270-280HP. Keeping the 3.5 for F-Series duty.

This 3.5tt is quicker than the 6.2 Raptor, 14.7@93 was the best pass I believe.

The platform has been updated, big time. The new one has been released but Ford is not bringing it here for whatever reason.

The F150's are just too big and bulky for what I would want for example. This motor would be great in the Raptor though...

Raptor is quite a bit heavier than most F150 configurations (if not all), what was the 3.5TT put into? 2/4 door, shortbed/longbed, 2wd/4wd? Thanks.

You need a lifted F350 diesel Click here to enlarge

3.5s are nice motors but won't compare to a blown 6.2L, soon there will be more than a few kits for these motors/trucks turbos as well. That will be a sick puppy.

I believe the Raptors are a bit heavier, and the 35 inch tires dont help out either. I would rather have the 6.2.

Yes it is, just giving you a frame of reference.

The 3.5tt was in the 4x2 ext.

SCT will probably be first to market as they typically are with Ford OBD hardware/software.

I thought this was very impressive regarding the ecoboost:

Exactly as promised, Ford sent a couple of technicians to the show floor at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show in front of a live audience to disassemble the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine that was torture-tested for the equivalent of a few hundred thousand miles of rigorous duty on the dyno and in the engine bay of various F-Series trucks.

How'd it fair? Rather well, we'd say, and it managed to churn out 364 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque on the dyno after all the abuse it took. That matches up rather well with the factory ratings of 365 horses and 420 lb-ft.

As you might expect, there was a good amount of carbon build-up on the piston crowns and the valves – think of how much dust was surely ingested over the course of 1,062 miles of the Baja 1000 race, which this engine took part in, finishing first overall in its class – along with a 13-percent loss on one cylinder during the leak-down test. All other initial measurements were well within factory tolerances, and Ford will continue testing each individual piece from this engine to ensure its durability.

No doubt about it, this is an impressive showing for the EcoBoost engine. See plenty more pictures and a first-hand recounting of the tear-down process at PickupTrucks.com.

I've seen ecoboosts that have put up big numbers.

The SHO is direct injected so maybe that is why we haven't seen some huge turbo upgrades and such. Ford built one ecoboost motor that direct injected E85 combined with port injection that put out some huge power, very cool.

Uhh, tell those guys to work on the N54! E85 is PERFECT for Direct Injection, right as it comes out it just sucks up huge amount of heat, not to mention it burns very well.

Ford was testing the ecoboost sho to 600 hp at the crank with stock components before launch. These engines are very capable, the problem is the car is too big and heavy and you will not see big numbers 700rwhp+ like the gt500 can put up.
