2015 Audi A3 2.0T test figures - Curb weight, 0-60, 1/4 mile, weight distribution, and skidpad

Although the hatchback A3 models are not coming to the USA at this time Audi is bringing the third generation 8V A3 sedan to the United States. Audi thinks we hate hatchbacks here and considering the slow sales of the previous generation A3 it's hard to argue with them. Regardless, we are happy to have the new A3 which has been on sale since 2013 finally available in the United States as a 2015 model. MotorTrend got their hands on the 2015 A3 2.0T sedan to test and here are the results.

Curb weight comes in at a not very light 3630 pounds although this is similar to the CLA250 curb weigh. That makes the car heavier than a BMW 3-Series when the A3 is positioned against the 1-Series, 2-Series, and Mercedes CLA. Weight distribution is typically nose heavy Audi at 54/46 front to rear.

The motor for the 2.0T is Audi's well known turbo four-cylinder with an output of 220 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Not exactly a powerhouse but Audi may be underrating it considering the 0-60 figure is 5.4 seconds and the 1/4 mile comes in at 14.0 @ 98.6. The dual clutch gearbox and all wheel drive definitely help as those are E36 M3 level figures.

Handling is impressive with .92g pulled on the skidpad. The A3 is 91% of the A4's size but at a $33,795.00 base price it is $5 dollars cheaper than the A4 2.0T which starts at $33,800.00. Heh, did Audi think that pricing through?

AudiBoost patiently awaits the S3 and RS3 models.

I wonder if that means the A4 will have a serious price increase for the next generation?
I love the DCT, but for $33k, I'd still take a A4 or G37x sedan over this.

My cousin has the current A3. WAY too small in my opinion.

They have the wrong base price. It is $32,900.

You have to get the 1.8T if you want to start below $30k.

You're right. But it's actually MotorTrend that picked the wrong one. Regardless, the difference is:

    A3 2.0T: $32,900
    A4 2.0T: $33,800

    The difference is $900.

A4 can't stay where it is with this thing - pricing and size (and weight holy sh*t) don't make sense otherwise. Very nice entry level car.

Looks like the next gen A4 is going to move up in price and size quite a bit.

I'm thinking so. This thing is about B5-sized anyway. How much bigger are the W205/F30 than the B8? I didn't think really too much bigger if at all. Doesn't seem like there's much room to grow unless they want to push that segment up once again. Which would suck. We don't need an A4 the size of a D2 A8. This is getting stupid.

I agree but everyone is doing it. Then the A3 will baloon up and the A2 will take its spot. Then the A1. Then A0.5.

We're gonna have to start using irrational numbers pretty soon...
