    new lsd w a better solution for welded diffs

    Just seen this and thought its interesting

    Hello Everyone I am in the market for an lsd but don't really like price options. I have went to http://www.teammfactory.com/ to see if they made any for e92 coupe. I was talking with a rep for a custom build and they said if I get at least 10 people they could make an lsd for us between 700-750. I personally used this company before on an lsd before and never had a problem with their build quality/ performance of parts. All they would ask for is half of money up front and a diff to be sent to their California office and once complete 3-4 months prototype would be sent to ensure fitment and once everything is set rest of deposit is due.

    question is would it handle a hard ass launch, I'm notorious for snapping axles at the strip. eventually will upgrade axels, but with my next failing point either the trans or diff. and i would rather pay the extra money and go with a proven differential.

    I just contacted them about one for the shop car, and doing just a few minutes research on them, I would gladly run any product they offer. They are friggin OEM for Honda performance North America. Honda is going to be putting any garbage on their factory race cars.

    We actually already have the E92 fitments available, so there is no need for deposits:

    Helical LSD E9X 320d (MT) for Final Ratio <= 3.07
    Helical LSD E9X 325i/328i/330i (MT)/335i 07+ (AT) for Final Ratio >= 3.15
    Helical LSD E9X 335i (MT)/335i 05-07 (AT)
    Metal Plate LSD E9X 320d (MT) for Final Ratio <= 3.07
    Metal Plate LSD E9X 325i/328i/330i (MT)/335i 07+ (AT) for Final Ratio >= 3.15

    To answer some of the concerns regarding quality, you can view our full company profile and manufacturing process on our website. We are the only performance transmission company who is this transparent with regards to manufacturing.

    Both types of LSD come with a Lifetime Warranty, and our Helical LSD's are also backed by our Feel the Torque™ Guarantee (30-day Money Back Guarantee. We are the only company in the World to offer this sort of guarantee)

    AFAIK, the welded ring gears are only on some of the 135i/335i, but I would need to do more research into this. However, it is an easy and inexpensive fix. If the demand is there, we could easily make a new ring gear (which is compatible with the existing oem pinion gear) to go with our LSD (or any other for that matter) at a 1/4 of the cost of an LSD.

    Again, I apologise for not being able to post pricing or forum deals.

    Any questions, please feel free to ask (but keep it to a technical nature rather than sales)

    Doesnt sound like they have working diff's yet for the welded units. And thats what most of us will need. The bolted ones have never been much of an issue and are alot less expensive.

    I'm welded, but what exactly are they saying they'll do? Provide the LSD and install in your own pumpkin? Just not real clear on exactly how this would work; especially me being in Florida, what do I need to ship them and what do they ship me back?

    Right, but does their price include the LSD only? so they ship it to you and you have to have it installed? $750 is pretty good for an LSD, but then there's install; not as easy as just bolting up a pumpkin.

    You've snapped your OEM axles on the 335i? Pushing what kind of power? And what upgrades have you looked at? I'll probably be needing to do this as well then if I want to take my ST to the strip.

    Ive snapped 5 axels total.
    3 Right side with stock turbos FBO/meth.
    1 right side with RBs,
    1 left side with Rbs/wavetrac. then i parted the car LOL

    now i gotta start from scratch.

    so yeah DSS axels and a diff are in my future. still have my Lockdown kit. but gonna throw everything on when VTX3's are in.

    Edit: maybe because Im The heaviest E9x. Power/weight off the line. M3s with SC don't have the issues i guess because of the stronger rear end. nobody mods n54 verts.. lol

    I blew my drivers axle out Saturday night. Hard 1-2 shift. Just spit all the internals of the CV joint out. Axles are already in their way to DSS.

    lol, so $750+$600 ring gear...plus install....might as well just have PTF send a pumpkin for all done and ready to bolt-in for $2900 and call it a day. Probably less than $1,000 difference at the end of the day, plus a lot of extra work, downtime for the car, and more room for error.

    1. You're not going to "snap" a carrier. That's nonsense. The axles will break first followed by the pinion to drive shaft flange. You don't make that much power and certainly don't have enough tire, trust me.
    2. Big red flag advertising making a new ring gear to match an existing pinion. They are replaced as sets for a reason.
    3. This unit looks like the old "OBX" units which were imitations of the Quaife. Never tried one on another platform so I can't comment if they are any good. Worse quality helicals may wear out though where as a good one should not wear.

    Thats' my thoughts.
