Pictures of Supersprint's RS6/RS7 4.0 TFSI V8 downpipe development and comparison to the stock catted downpipes

If you do not know already know the Audi 4.0 TFSI V8 features top mounted turbochargers you will after taking a look at these photos. The benefit for tuners and aftermarket manufacturers is turbochargers and plumbing that are relatively easy to get to as well exhaust gases that only need to travel a short distance. The design is quite efficient but the factory downpipes can be improved as they integrate large cats (as close as possible to the turbos to heat quickly for emissions) and some large bends.

The Supersprint design straightens these bends out for less restrictive flow and also replaces the cats with freer flowing units. Supersprint will also likely develop catless downpipes for 'off-road' use of course. No dynocharts yet as these are not yet for sale but the 4.0 TFSI V8 is going to have a solid downpipe option which should bring some healthy horsepower gains shortly.

$100 says APR does it first.

Yep. Tuning and hardware in house with some of the top engineers, I can definitely see them being first. But I bet the price is going to push $20k.

Anyone have a rough idea of what size turbos can fit in there? From what i've seen in person I feel like gt28's would be pushing it!

Yeah haven't seen anything on that front.

I e-mailed Audi asking details about the turbo sizes and they haven't e-mailed back...

Thanks for asking them...I haven't seen the Audi turbos but when I saw a BMW 750 with the turbos exposed saying they were T25 sized was being generous and the packaging was TIGHT.

It's pretty tight spacing here too but I'm sure someone can fit some larger turbos on there.

That heat shielding looks to be extensive...must be a reason for it, and with everything been so tight as it is....would you risk it?

The close proximity of the turbos makes it possible to do a big single turbo swap. That would be epic to have a massive single right on top of the engine.

A single is an interesting thought but I think people are probably going to explore upgraded twins as a single is likely far too difficult to make work. At least at this stage.
