    There may not be a 991 Generation (2015+) 911 GT2 - Rear wheel drive traction to blame?

    The 911 GT2 has traditionally occupied the top performance spot of the 911 range. At least since the 993 generation and the GT2 was seen with the 996 and 997 generations. It seems only natural to continue the trend but apparently internal politics are putting a stop to the GT2 being green lit. Additionally, apparently someone inside Porsche thinks the GT2 would make too much power for rear wheel traction citing the 911 Turbo 0-60 numbers.

    PorscheBoost is quick to point out that what makes a car like the GT2 great is not 0-60 times. It is designed as a stripped, lightweight, track focused 911 with turbo thrust. It's essentially a GT3 with the Turbo powerplant. If someone really cares about 0-60 times more than lighter weight, track prowess, and fun factor then the 911 Turbo fills that void.

    August Achleitner is the man in charge of the 911 at Porsche. This is what he had to say, "Right now all I can say is that a decision has not been made. There are reasons inside the company, and to write today that there will be a GT2 in the future would not be correct. If you take a look at today’s Turbo S and the performance this car produces . . . you cut away the front-wheel drive for the GT2, but the car loses traction."

    The 991 GT3 offers less traction off the line than a 991 C4S yet that has not stopped Porsche producing the GT3. The Porsche 911 is a rear weight biased car and if Chevrolet can produce a C7 Z06 with 600+ horsepower from a blown 6.2 liter V8 in the front of the car and not complain about traction issues what exactly is the problem Porsche is having? That the GT2 takes some skill as to when and how to apply the power?

    With the 991 Turbo S already capable of cracking the $200k mark when optioned a 991 GT2 would likely be a car in the $250k+ range. The real problem might be the cost. 996 and 997 GT2's have not exactly held their value well or been easy to sell considering their high price point. Once approaching $250k something with a prancing horse on it becomes far more appealing than a Porsche 911 on steroids reserved for only the most hardcore of Porsche fans.

    Keep in mind Porsche was spotted testing the 991 GT2 last year so this model is likely ready to go and only needing official approval. Once the internal struggle over this car settles hopefully those in favor of the GT2 will win out. If not, it may signal Porsche going the way of BMW and opting for sales volume and figures over enthusiast models. Let's hope that does not happen.

    I thought the 997 GT2 and GT2 RS has tremendous success and were sold out rather quickly! Gt2 Rs has always been one of my most favorite porsches ever.

    Its a nice spot between the GT3 and turbo, enough to take away the manual from the Gt3, but to take away the most insane turbo power rear wheel drive Gt2 would suck.

    I saw the same GT2 on a dealer lot for 5 months and that's in Orange County. They are awesome cars but their value drops like a rock. You can get a 997 GT2 for $120k now, talk about taking a hit. For an eye opener look at the 996 prices. They should build it and considering the car has already done its testing I think it will get the green light. Porsche is making enough money to do it.

    Who has constantly been posting that traction is now the limiting factor that requires AWD on street tires.......

    If they could do a 997 GT2 and GT2 RS you really think a 991 GT2 is going to be some huge difference?
