    981 Cayman S first upgrades?

    Hi guys.

I sold my c63 tuned by oe tuning and decided to buy the new cayman s for lapping.

    PDK with sport chrono package
    Sport suspension 20mm lower
PTV + mechanical limited slip diff
    Stock exhaust

The car will be used for track days and fun. It won't be driven daily.

I didn't bought the PSE because it's 3.5k and it doesnt add any performance. There's so many aftermarket choices out there for the same price.

I've been told to do not buy another exhaust. The stock exhaust is already good and just upgrade ECU and headers/200cels cat.

I really liked the job oe tuning done with the c63 and I'm hoping they'll do a job as good as they did with the 981 cayman s.

Any help? It's my first porsche/mid-engine car.

It seem like this website is the best for porsche tuning.

    thanks!

    -Simon

Hello Simon and congrats on the car.

Do you want predominantly power upgrades? Suspension?

Exhaust and a tune is a great place to start especially considering the software limiting the 3.4 liter compared to the Carrera to begin with.

Hey sticky. I wish to have 25-30 more horses. I dont want too much so I can keep the natural balance of the car. With my c63 tuned (oetuning), I had great success for street use, but not so great for lapping. Limp mode etc... The heat was too much for the stock car catalyzer. I do not want that with my 981 cs.

What kind of exhaust are you talking about? I know supersprint make quality exhausts, but nothing is released yet.

I heard you need to change the air intake...

    Let me know,

    thanks!

Congrats on the 981. That car is truly a weapon on the track. You are in store for a lot of great sessions.

For the 987 cars, opening up the intake and exhaust are really key... I would imagine it's the same for the 981 as well. On 987, a popular upgrade is to go with 997 GT3 intake/throttle body pieces, or with aftermarket units by iPD and others. You've already mentioned going with race cats, which is another great step.

I've just ordered the SoftTronic ECU upgrade for my 987, which states a 20hp gain over stock alone without other mods. The tune from FVD Brombacher is similar in gains but has a different flash process. I believe both companies have tunes available on the 981 already.

    Good luck and enjoy!

Fabspeed has exhaust upgrades. You definitely want to look into the headers and exhaust they have.

An ECU tune to compliment these will really give you a nice power boost and probably more than 25-30 horses. I think you can definitely get in the 40 hp range gain with bolt ons and a tune because of how detuned the motor is for the Cayman.

Hey guys. Thanks for all the replys.

Before I started this thread, I googled "porsche 981 headers stock exhaust".

I found 2 differents threads. One of them bought the race headers with maxflow exhaust. After a few weeks, he got tired of the droning so he tried another kind of exhaust. Didn't liked it that much and went back to stock exhaust, with racing headers. He did the dyno on the 3 differents setups and had the same gains! He also posted a video of the final result and sound is amazing.

** I cant post the links. I dont have enough rep points. It's on planet-9.

Those seem like good endorsements to me. Fabspeed makes good stuff.

I called Oe tuning and their mappings are not ready yet.

Softronic? FVD? What's happening when you buy the mappings and you make some headers upgrades (cat-less) after that? I guess they need to readjust everything?

When I tuned my C63, I paid a fixed price and I could go back whenever I want for "finetuning".

They should be able to adjust to your mods. You would want a custom dyno tune ideally.

Not every tuner will do this.
