Audi SQ5 to get gasoline gasoline variant with 354 horses from a 3.0 TFSI supercharged V6? Possibly come to the USA?
When the Audi SQ5 was announced in June of this year it shocked a lot of the automotive world that the performance SUV was launched with a diesel powerplant instead of a gasoline version based on the 3.0 TFSI V6 motor also used in the B8 Audi S4. The diesel powerplant certainly offering formidable performance with 313 horses and 479 pound-feet of torque but Audi would not bring this car to the USA. Well, rejoice, as it seems another SQ5 is in the works this time with the gasoline 3.0 TFSI.
Thank the Volkswagen ETKA online parts catalog for this leak which shows an SQ5 3.0 Quattro with 354 horsepower scheduled for May 2013. This online VW database has been responsible for several leaks in the past which have all proven true such as the TT-RS and the 4.0 TFSI twin turbo 4.0 liter V8 motor and output figures for the S6, S7, and S8.
With this motor already in the USA and the SUV market proving very popular with luxury performance variants it is almost a sure bet that this will be sold in the USA. Additionally, this would mean Mercedes and BMW would not have a competitor. An M variant of the X3 and an AMG variant of the GLK would almost certainly need to come in order to compete if Audi gets this leg up.
AudiBoost will bring you more details on this story as it develops and this certainly is exciting turn of events for those disappointed this model would not be available in the United States.
