Porsche 991 Carrera S Powerkit officially released, +30 horsepower - New cams, tune, and cylinder heads

Just as we expected from the launch of the 991 Club Coupe Porsche has released their 991 Carrera S Powerkit giving a boost of 30 horsepower. This mirrors what Porsche did with the previous generation 997 Carrera S releasing a Club Coupe that led to the X51 performance package option offering more naturally aspirated power before the arrival of the GT3. Pricing has not been announced for the Powerkit but the X51 Powerkit option on the 997 Carrera S cost $17,000.

The increase of 30 horsepower comes from revised cylinder heads, intake, camshafts, and ECU tuning. An additional radiator is also included for the track junkies.

Is this option worth it? Well, that all depends on how badly you want the most powerful 991 currently available. Some would say adding the ~$17k toward the cost of a GT3 might be the wiser course of action. We will not fault anyone who orders this option however.

Ok, here's some info on the Porsche modular engine 9A1 engine + X51 Power kit (991.2 Carrera GTS & 991 Carrera S) . The 9A1 adjustment range of the camshaft control at the intake side is currently 50 °CA. The small intake-valve lift is 3.6 mm (5.6 mm with power kit) with a large valve lift of up to 11 mm on the 997.2 GTS/991 Carrera S (11.7 mm with power kit). In the VarioCam Plus system, approximately 80 % of the potential of a fully variable valve drive can be achieved at the same time as a high engine speed capability with an approximate workload of 20 %. Sliding valve levers are still used today in special engines such as the 911 GT3, for example. The intake-valve lift is 12 mm, but is not flexible.

And, since Powerkit includes 991 control unit SDI 9 calibration, cylinder heads w/DLC coated tappets, 4 x camshaft, airbox, etc. I think 10k it's a bargain for 991 owners w/warranty & you can retrofit some of the components into 997.2 9A1 engine variations & the use the more tuner accessible SDI3 & SDI4 =)

    But, then you have the 991 GT3 9A1 version 390kW =)

This is some great stuff here.

Personally, I really want to see a Powerkit dyno.

Even more importantly than that, I want to see if the 991 GT3 parts bolt right onto to the motor Click here to enlarge
