Lamborghini to stay naturally aspirated through the end of the decade

    Stay proud and natural Lambo!

Though turbocharged engines have spread like wildfire throughout Volkswagen Group’s model range in recent years, don’t look for Lamborghini to embrace the turbo trend in the near future.

“For the time being it will not happen,” Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann told Autocar. “For this decade, I don’t see it happening in the super sport car business – although I would also caution against saying it could never happen.

“The future can take its own path when fuel regulations are involved. All I will say is that any development along those lines must be consistent with the DNA of Lamborghini.”

Lamborghinis have long been associated with sonorous, free-revving naturally aspirated engines. Though turbocharging could provide a boost in power (and efficiency, if applied in conjunction with downsized mills), it would likely result in engines that sound and respond differently from what Lamborghini owners have come to expect.

Winkelmann also stated that the next-generation Gallardo, which is expected to debut “at least two years down the road,” will not feature a turbocharged engine from the get-go. The Lamborghini chief didn’t rule out the possibility of adding a force-fed motor further down the line, however.

Hopefully we won't live to see the day of a hybrid Lambo.

They will have to follow the trend of downsizing for emissions & 20% more efficient engines =)
