    Smile 550i quarter mile

Took the 550 out to New England Dragway yesterday - best run:

    ET -12.999
    60 - 2.155
    Trap - 112.95

Only mod is Dinan Stage 2 (althought I think the blacked out grill helped me edge under 13sec) Also stopped at the scale - the car weighs 4,560lbs with me and a 1/8 tank of gas in it Click here to enlarge

This was my first time at the track with a manual, and only got in 3 runs. Totally different experience than my 335 with AWD and 6AT... I think I may have been able to get a little quicker with more practice, but traction was hard to come by and I was on stock RFTs.

    Here's the video:

Thanks for posting this Alex, if you don't mind can you post up the rest of the incrementals? Also what were you launching at? Is it me or is there another person who took their Dinan tuned 550i to the track? Since I'm home this week and didn't plan on it I will have time to get mine dyno'd and I will hopefully go to commerce for the TNT so we can compare tuned vs stock(well downpipes but no tune) based off your runs I'd love to get a 13.1

Ahh I found the other two 550i's I had seen run the 1/4 and I bet once you get your launch down you'll be much faster. I saw a 550xi with the dinan stage 1 ran a 12.485@110 if your trapping close to 3mph over him that shows two things, one you spun alot more than he did(he's awd) and the stage 2 tune probably makes up the difference in the mph. I've got 315's in the back which may help but there are very low profile which hurts. I say with a good launch you'd hit 12.6 or so depending on how well you work the manual.

Edit: also why no burnout? Believe it or not but that helps, not only to heat the tires but to clear any debris that may affect traction. You got the dinan and 6mt smoke em!

NP, I'll post up a picture of the slip when I get home tonight. My first 2 runs I did burnouts, but spun off the line and got lousy 60s (I think 2.4 and 2.7) so I tried to change it up and do something different. I didn't spin much at all on this run, I really feathered the throttle and you can see how slow I am out of the hole in the vid.

I felt like my shifts were quick, just couldn't get started. I agree - 12.6 seems like a good target with some more practice, high perf summer tires and a bit warmer/less windy day.

Also, the car didn't show any signs of slowing down. I looked down when I lifted off just after the finish line and I was at 120mph.

Well you certainly got me wanting to hit the track and see what I can manage. This Friday is the test n tune. By then I'll have the fuel level sensor fixed and be back at full boost.

I was going to add the slip to the OP, but for some reason I can't edit my posts. Anyway, here it is.

And fuel was just a tick under 1/8 tank of Shell 93 and I put in about 1 gallon of MS109 I had left over from my trip to the track last year.

Thank you for the slip, what did you run against?

It is better to supplement a thread with additional information IMO which bumps it and gets you more views.

I have no idea, maybe a Vega? Whatever it was it was a purpose built drag car that came to the track on a trailer. Was a crazy mix of cars there - it was an open test & tune so a decent number of street cars, but they also had a drag racing club outing at the same time with some serious race cars.

MS109, is that unleaded? If it's leaded it will kill your cats and O2 sensors.

You have the traps to run mid 12s with a good launch. Better work on that launch!

    Dinan Stage 2 N63 twin turbo V8 tuned F10 550i runs 12.9@112.9

Congrats to BimmerBoost member @alextremo who took his manual F10 550i out to the New England Dragway and ran 12's with only a Dinan Stage 2 tune. Alex weighed his car with himself in it and it came in at a staggering 4,560 pounds so running almost 113 mph and high 12's on stock runflat street tires along with that weight is certainly impressive. The Dinan tune clearly has made a considerable difference. The vehicle had an 1/8 tank of gas and some MS109 race fuel mixed with pump gas. This vehicle is capable of much more in cooler weather with some drag radials as well as supplementary modifications.

It's hard to learn to launch with a manual. My brother in law has a 350z with some slight mods, fastest he could get it was 14.2 and it's easily a high 12's car but he sucks at launching it. The only thing that sucks about my auto is it doesn't let me power brake beyond 2k because the computer starts stalling it.

Not sure how I missed this was a manual, very nicely done!

You have a TON of room to improve that 60 foot.

Yeah but they always have specials between 15-20% off. Right now it's 15% off, yeah I know what your gonna say still about twice as expensive as it should be and your right but right now it's the only choice. If OE tuning was coming by GA on their east coast trip maybe we coulda worked something out to show what they can do to an N63. I might be convinced to visit my parents in Miami next week!
