    My new S30 Project

I decided to go in a different direction for my first car and got one that I have dreamed of owning for quite a while. I thought it would be cool to let everyone on the board in on the Japanese nostalgia project that I'm starting.

We went and paid for it today, but are leaving to Las Vegas tomorrow (MFEST) and it will be getting worked on while I'm gone by our mechanic (brake fluid change, oil change, etc.). It's a '77 280z with 133,000 original miles with the original 4 speed manual and L28.

Here's the start to the project:

Thanks! As an update, I've ripped out all of the carpet, and removed the front grill for paint. All of the fluids have also been changed, and I just ordered my Sparco Speed w/ bracket and sliders for the drivers side from HPF! Excellent service of course.

I love old Zs! What are your plans as far as power-train, drive-train, and chassis setup?

When I get the money, I'd like to go with an SR20 or an RB (preferably an RB26 with the RB25 transmission), for now I'm sticking with the good old L28 haha. As far as the chassis setup, I've started ready HybridZ to learn about the option, but haven't decided for sure what I'm going with yet. I've seen good things about Arizona Z Car's kit (there's a member on 6Speed doing an amazing 240Z build who's using it), but it looks like it's quite spendy. I'd like to get some sway bars, strut tower braces, and eventually run adjustable coilovers, I know that much but will need to keep educating myself on suspension. I'd also like to run a cage eventually, but will probably start off with just a harness bar.

If you have any recommendations for me, I'd be happy to hear them!

Here are some before pics of the passenger side (the driver's side was torn out, but you can't really see it here), I didn't take pics of the interior right after I tore out all of the carpet because I didn't want to touch my D90 with dirty hands Click here to enlarge. The 1970's faded thick nasty brown carpet is now gone! I'll post pics of the interior tomorrow without carpet. The floorpans are clean with very little rust (the rust there is on the surface) so I'll be taking care of that and painting them soon (and throwing in the Sparco when it gets here). Since I'm working on a serious budget, and I don't have my regular job until the summer, I decided to just change out the driver's seat for now and do the passenger side later.

Very true, it will be a fun project.

Here's an update picture of the interior with the carpet out:

I'm happy to say that this car is pretty clean as far as rust on the floorboards, with just a little sanding needed.

Check out RIPS Racing, they built an INSANE 240z with a "RB30DET". Basically, a 3.0l Nissan bottom end with RB heads and turbocharged.

Haha, mine it quite smoky at the moment. I've picked up some new valve stem seals, but am considering having the whole thing rebuilt.

DUDE. Have you seen PROJECT HUGO? If not, I will bestow upon you one of the best, most epic, well documented builds I've ever seen. and it involves an old school datsun 280z.
Some people live long, meaningful lives.

Other people eat shit and die.

I'm not racist, I hate everybody equally; especially fat people.
