New C63 Black Series AMG coupe spyphotos - M157 twin turbo V8 rumors continue

The previous C63 Black Series spyphotos we showed you last month were of the sedan. This brought into question if they were focusing on the sedan or if the coupe had been abandoned. It is quite clear now Mercedes is working on Black Series versions of both. Photographers did look under the hood and it seems the 571 horsepower performance package version of the M157 twin turbo 5.5 liter V8 may make it to production. If so, game over, we bow in respect, and sign us up.

They took a look under the hood. Unconfirmed, take it for what it is.

Yes, a very good chance. I want the twin turbo motor, the P31 package is already close enough.

This is insane. I'm really excited for this car. Crazy MB is putting so much power in the C63. Total Anihilation for the M3 and most likely the new M5 also, since it will be heavier. The C Coupe looks awesome BTW.

Exactly, if this happens this thing is going to annihilate a lot of cars, the M3 won't even be on its Radar.

Just wonder what the price will be? $100k?

Looks like they added some much needed meat to the rears--I'd like to see a little more fender flaring and hopefully some attempt at lightening it with cf and aluminum.

Surely over $100k, if a loaded c63 is in the $80ks.

I hope it is in the low 100's, makes it a perfect step up from the M3 for me. Just expensive enough to keep the riff raff out yet still an incredible performance value.

Over $100k for a BLK Series C63 makes the current C63 a bargain.

The C63 Black Series seems to be shaping up nicely. There is some question that it will be available in the Canadian market at all. Time will tell and I will dream on.

Could me more than one for sure. Based on MB's history with BS models it would make sense to use a M156 though. SLK BS, CLK BS, SL BS all used out or ongoing variants of previous years models. Shoehorning a new and fairly untested by comparison engine into a BS model doesn't seem like the AMG thing to do. JMHO.

I believe it is a too small a market and maybe the cost of doing Canadian upgrades for regulations. Not sure really? I don't believe that the CLK BS was available in Canada. A member on MBW, NORTH 44 C63 from Toronto said "I contacted the AMG Personal Liaison Mgr at MB Canada yesterday to ask to have my name added to any wait list. He was happy to oblige but could not say 100% if the BS would make the Canadian market. Time will tell."

MB Canada is currently on a BIG push to promote the AMG brand in Canada. It started last year with our first "Performance Tour" and they are opening the first Canadian "AMG Performance Centre" at the MB Mississauga location as we speak. I would be surprised if an C63 BS didn't have some Canadian allocation.

Your right....the CLK BS was not sold in Canada but we did get a few SL65 BS in 2010. Not sure how many >>>Not more than a few i'm sure

I think the pictures clearly show an M156 and that would agree with what you are saying. However, Insideline just confirmed in a report that the M157 is being testing. Honestly, I think no one really knows at this point including Mercedes. It makes sense that both are being tested.

The M275 isn't exactly the most reliable powerplant but they stuck it in a Black Series.

In reality the M275 is a truck engine but it gets the job done. At this point M275s don't eat themselves in stock form, the same can't be said about M157s due to the injectors and pistons. The pistons will be the mechanical limiting factor in the bottom end of M157s as they are in pretty much all forced induction MBZ or AMGs. As for the injectors let's just hope it was a few bad batches.

Has something been seen from the M157 up to this point to think for some reason it wouldn't be a reliable choice? What is wrong with the pistons?

I think I'm going to learn toward M156 for this car but who knows, I would love to see something different.

They just aren't high quality, they are cast but word is not even on par with the old 55K pistons. Again this would be MB not letting the 63 potentially outrun the 65.

I think since it's an open track car the M156 would be more fitting, especially with some SLS upgrades. Time will tell.
